Given that we are from south Louisiana, it goes without saying that my mother-in-law is one of the best cooks I know and gave me this recipe. These are both visually appealing and delicious because to the diced up dried cranberries.

Ingredients
- butter-flavored cooking spray
- 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
- 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, or more to taste
- 4 cups water
Instructions
- Spray the inside of a 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray.
- Place diced apples into the slow cooker; add oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice, and water.
- Cook on Low for 8 hours; switch cooker to Warm until ready to serve.
- You can substitute milk for half of the liquid for creamier oatmeal; you can also substitute steel cut oats for the old fashioned oatmeal.
- Leftover oatmeal can be used to make muffins or bread.

Way too thick,
Spices didn’t blend very well. The oat were a little over cooked. I do plan to try again with some adjustments.
Well, I can’ t imagine what I did wrong , but I woke up eagerly expecting a bowl of yumminess and instead found a soupy mess. I followed the recipe exactly, but It is a nearly inedible goo. And the crock pot has stuff cooked onto it that is going to be a job to clean up. Yuck. Had high hopes. Big fail.
