Have all the ingredients on hand all the time. Easy cake to make clean up’s a breeze… Yum, yum yum.
It was moist and delicious!!!
Cake great… wouldn’t change a thing. My frosting was 2cups hot soft sweet potatoes and 1 cup dark chocolate chips in blender. So good together or eat by it self. I call it frosting but it could just be chocolate with sweet potatoes…
i had an account on here but ive lost access to it, but i had to leave a review. i started using this recipe when my daughter was a newborn, and it became my go to recipe for birthday cakes, holiday cakes, cakes for any reason whatsoever…anyway, my daughter is grown now, and i had asked her to help me with baking, and i was absolutely shocked when she showed me this recipe, and told me that this was her go to recipe as well!! i love that this beloved cake recipe has been passed from me to my daughter, and with good reason…it literally never fails. ever. it is absolutely the best recipe ive ever used and ever will use.
Simple recipe . Love it I forgot the water.. but the result is ok. Made the 2 layers 6th Birthday cake for my lovely daughter
This was delicious, easy to make, moist, and wonderful. HOWEVER, I’m giving it 4 stars because it was lacking something and I can’t put my finger on what – perhaps it needed a touch more salt to make the flavors come alive? The only change I made was that I used 1 cup of cocoa powder instead of 3/4 cup. I will make again but am curious to sub coffee instead of water (or add a tsp of instant coffee) and maybe try kosher salt instead of table salt. As a side note, the most helpful critical review says this is not a good cake to layer with – I respectfully disagree and believe this was their user error; I was able to remove my cakes from the pans without breaking any of them (I made several). Dont be afraid! Just grease well, and once they’re baked use a knife to cut around the edges, then ease them out. I feel that reviewer perhaps didn’t bake for long enough and their cakes were undercooked. This is a MOIST cake, not a pudding cake, as that review states.
I followed the recipe exactly as written. It was easy and delicious. I will never use box cake mix again!!
Made it just the way it says, perfect every time. My go to quick chocolate cake. Thanks for an easy recipe that works great. I do use black coffee sometimes for the water❤️
We used hot coffee in place of the water and it was amazing. Super moist and brownie like. Perfect for hot fudge cake.
Excellent recipe. I upped the cocoa powder to 1 cup and added a teaspoon of espresso powder. Simply delicious, quick to bake and turned out perfect.
This is my favorite chocolate cake recipe. I have tried a few other recipes, which came out dry and crumbly. This recipe the cake is very moist.
This recipe is great. I used it to make a sugar free cake and it turned out perfect.
So I’ve made this cake recently several times and all.of my coworkers loved it but now I am trying this without adding cocoa and I just looked at it in the oven and it looks kind of weird I followed all the steps as usual besides the cocoa…… oh I did put strawberry jelly in the batter instead hopefully I didn’t screw it up
Very easy to put together I used a wisk to mix it. Made cupcakes .My boys loved it. In place of hot water I used hot coffee. Great taste .
i haven’t eaten it yet. the batter tasted good and rich. however, the recipe instructions are very unclear. most recipes have a dry ingredients and wet ingredients separation. this recipe had them in two different steps, and it wasn’t clear that they wanted them in the same bowl. i would up doing the boiling water step out of order, because the recipe had already added in the dry ingredients and i had not.
Baked into 1 cake instead of layer and but 1 cup of cocoa and 1 cup of buttermilk instead of milk. Baked it for 50 minutes and my family loved it. Also I sprayed the pan with Pam and it slipped right out.
Quick and easy.
This is a lovely rich moist chocolate cake although I made it layered because it’s so moist it almost fell apart think this would be better if used as a sheet cake.
Too sweet. I added more flour, however, it was okay. I don’t like this type of cake. Beautiful bake though.
Fabulous cake. Watch the video as the cake is very sticky and mine didn’t release from my spring form pans well. I made a cream/cream cheese frosting for it. A nice combination.
Best chocolate cake ever I’m going to make it in cupcake size this time
