Nonna’s Sweet Pasta Sauce for Two

  4.5 – 4 reviews  • Tomato

This affordable, warming, full, and classic Chinese breakfast dish is rice porridge. I prefer my rice to be thoroughly digested, therefore I cook it for a longer period of time and with short-grain rice. Enjoy, I hope! Serve hot in little bowls with a dash of oyster sauce, chopped scallion greens, and thin slices of yau ja gwai (fried Chinese breadstick, also known as Chinese crullers).

It does say sweet, and it was! I reduced the sugar to 2 TB per other reviews, and it was still way too sweet for me. I did like the simplicity of making it, and that it was just for 2.

Loved the recipe. Not so much sugar. Awesome on chicken parm. My new go to recipe for 2

Nice and easy sauce. I only had a partial can of tomato paste and made up for it using some gochujang and then skipped the hot pepper flakes. I also used only 1 tablespoon of sugar and also added half a teaspoon of oregano. Next time I might put in half oregano and half basil. The family loved it.

Loved the flavors in this and how easy it was to prepare, and I know it’s called ‘sweet’ in the title, but it was just TOO sweet for us, as written. I reduced the basil, and added in a bit of oregano, which was good. I am still giving this 4 stars because it’s a nice, easy, tasty sauce, but I will adjust the sugar next time. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
