MoMo’s Grilled Turkey Burgers

One day, I wanted to prepare some hamburgers for my vegetarian wife. I quickly devised this recipe for grilled turkey burgers after recalling some of the ingredients my father used in his burgers. My wife adored them right away! I initially believed it was an accident, but my wife enjoyed them so much that I also produced them for other people’s gatherings. Delicious and speedy!

Total Time: 55 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 burgers

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground turkey
  2. 1 large egg
  3. 2 tablespoons Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
  4. 1 large clove garlic, minced
  5. 1 teaspoon onion powder
  6. 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  7. ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  8. ½ teaspoon chili powder
  9. ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  10. ¼ teaspoon ground white pepper
  11. 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  12. 4 hamburger buns, split

Instructions

  1. Combine turkey, egg, bread crumbs, garlic, onion powder, poultry seasoning, cumin, chili powder, salt, white pepper, and cayenne in a large mixing bowl and mix by hand. Shape into 4 patties. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to absorb all of the flavors.
  2. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  3. Place patties on the preheated grill, close the lid, and let them sit for 6 to 8 minutes. Flip and continue to cook until browned and no longer pink, 7 to 9 minutes more. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center of a patty should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Serve on buns immediately.
  4. Preferably use 85/15 ground turkey but 90/10 works too.
  5. There are a couple of important rules here to keep them juicy: Number one, keep the lid closed! Number two, do not press or squeeze the patties! Number 3, flip them only once!
