Ingredients

  1. nonstick cooking spray
  2. 1 (15.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix
  3. 1 (6 ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips
  4. 1 cup chopped walnuts (Optional)
  5. ½ cup milk
  6. ⅓ cup applesauce
  7. 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. Combine cake mix, chocolate chips, walnuts, milk, applesauce, and egg in a large bowl. Pour into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
  4. You can use 1/3 cup melted butter in place of the applesauce, if desired. You can use any kind of nuts you like.

This was made with a kitchen aid stand mixer and baked in an 8 X 8 pan. It’s not a brownie at all, it is, however, a cake.

This turned out good. I substituted vegetable oil for the applesauce, and it was a little dry. I didn’t have the applesauce. Overall, it was good and quick.
