Instructions
- Cut 1 pound refrigerated pizza dough into 1-inch pieces. Roll into balls. Deep-fry in 350 degrees F vegetable oil, turning as needed, until golden, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Sprinkle generously with confectioners’ sugar.

FYI – these are fried dough or “doughboys”. They are nothing like traditional zeppole which are a puffed pastry filled with boiled cream. If the recipe were called fried dough, I would give it 5 stars.
In Rhode Island we filled the Zeppoles with riccotta cheese filling and top with whipped cream . You only get around 3-19or St Joseph Day.
I tried this recipe last year for a party. And while I was making them I didnt really like the taste. So instead of powedered sugar on it I put the Zeppoles in a bag of cinnanmon sugar after they were done frying. Everyone loved them and they were delicious!
Is very good, it reminds me to the one they serve at olive garden with chocolate sauce.. love it…
