Ingredients

  1. 3 rashers thick-sliced bacon, cut in half

Instructions

  1. Heat a waffle iron to medium heat. Lay the bacon on the waffle iron and close lid. Cook for 2 1/2 minutes. Move the bacon pieces so the unseared areas now come in direct contact with the metal. Close the lid and cook for another 2 1/2 to 5 minutes, depending on desired crispness. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel lined plate. Reserve rendered fat for another use. Depending on bacon, you will have 1 to 3 tablespoons of fat.

Same idea, I use my panini grill which has a grease drain

The bacon wasn’t that bad, but certainly not worth the mess. My waffle iron may just be old (12 years but I found it very awkward to drain the fat after every batch (if I didn’t, the fat would just ooze out onto the counter. Much prefer to put the bacon in a cold oven, then heat the oven to 375. Turn bacon every five minutes. Bacon will be done by the time the hash browns and eggs are.

Really not worth the effort to clean up. I’ll got back to baking the bacon, or just frying it. I usually make home fries, so the hash browns where a nice change.

great bacon! BAD CLEAN!!!! think pannini press best!! irealise most single men most likely do not have one, unless he loves to cook. i still like the oven best!!!! less work and purrfect every time!!! thanks Alton.

Waffle iron to cook bacon…Alton, you’re the mad scientist of breakfast what a great idea! This, of course(as I do not own a Foreman grill) will work great!
Nathaniel Sellers
This was good, but try a George Foreman. Cooks in 10 minutes or less &
cleanup is easy.

I was coming to post the same thing as Kenny: the bacon came out great using the waffle iron, but the cleanup is really difficult! We’re going to try our Foreman grill next time instead (like Julia). I think I like these results a lot better than Alton’s oven method for bacon.

I used my pannini press instead of a waffle iron, and it turned out great! The pannini press has a grease catcher, and I was able to cook Alton’s delicious french toast recipe while the bacon cooked in the press.
Mary Collins
I like the way the bacon turned out, it was great. However, cleaning the waffle iron after cooking is a pain. The little bacon bits and grease are stuck in all the little crevices and it took 10-15 mins just to clean it up.
