One of my grandmother’s favorite recipes was for cake mix-based magic cookie bars.

I made this recipe twice and think potentially with a 3rd try and further modifications, it could be perfect. The first time, I made the recipe as instructed. Sprinkling the graham cracker crumbs over the butter did not form a crust and impossible to use these as “bars”. Topping with the condensed milk also made for not the most attractive dish. On round two, I combined the butter and graham cracker crumbs and pressed the crust into the pan, baked it for 10 mins. Based off a couple of reviews, I tried combining the milk, nuts and chocolate chips and layering it all in one swoop. That worked a bit better for appearance but it still didn’t “set” quite as nicely and required chilling in the fridge for a bit prior to cutting. I may have needed to increase the baking time a bit. In the future, I’ll try one of the recommendations of pouring 1/2 the milk on top of the crust and the remaining on top. I’d give this recipe 3-4 stars based on the instructions/method but 5 for taste.

I agree with mixing the graham crumbs and butter. I then bake the crust for a few minutes and then take out of the oven and add the toppings. The only thing missing here is maraschino cherries. They make the bars awesome.

Been making it for years my mom use to make it all the time, love it so so good.

My family loves these… fabulous as is but I add white chocolate and butterscotch chips, remove the walnuts to make them even richer.

I made this many times when my kids were growing up, and it was a favorite. After not making this for many years, I decided to try it again. It is overly sweet for me now. We can only eat a bite or 2 at a time. Easy to make. I did use a shortbread crust instead of the graham crackers.

I loved it personally, but it was a little too sweet for my parents… But, it turned out really good!

This is a fabulous treat. I change a bit with a mixture of semi sweet, milk and dark chips along with peanut butter chips and then after pouring the sweetened condensed milk add pretzel sticks pieces in top. The little bit of salt on the pretzels makes a great flavor.

I did what the recipe said but I opted to use chopped almonds and added plain M&M’s and mini marshmallows

I’ve read quite a few reviews. Not all. But the best thing is to eat them frozen! Not kidding. Try it!

Mine turned out a little messy but tasted amazing. Maybe needs something a little more to bind them.

Added another 1/2 cup of graham for the bottom and 2 tbsp more melted butter. So delicious! Will DEFINITELY make again & again!!

I love this recipe and always make it around the holidays. I use pecans instead of walnuts but it turns out great and is delicious!

Fast easy and a big hit with every one.

had to cut them into 9 pieces and freeze 7 of them or they would be gone by tonight!!!

We love these. Over the years, I have found that these are better the next day. That is if they are not all gone on the first day.

awesome…I love everything in here!!! the original version contains butterscotch chips which I do not like at all…this recipe suits me fine and I’ve made it with walnuts and I’ve also used chopped toasted pecans for a twist which is delicious

Easy and delish! Takes minutes to make. I use an 8×8 so they are nice and thick.

I should have baked it a few minutes less. Probably 22 mins, instead of 25, but my hubby loved them anyway.
