Lucky and Rippy’s Favorite Dog Food

  4.7 – 67 reviews  • Pet Food Recipes

My veterinarian has examined and given the go-ahead for this dish for dogs’ boiling chicken and rice. I posted this in response to the pet food recall so that other dog owners looking for a soft pet food alternative would see it. For smaller dogs, simply cut this nutritious dog recipe in half. For two sizable golden retrievers, this recipe lasts roughly 4 to 5 days when combined with kibble. Verify that no garlic nor onions are present in your veggie mixture.

I love the basic recipe BUT use 2 1/2 cups WHITE RICE as it’s much better for your dogs digestive system.

Very close to what I was making for my beagle and Shiba in. I added blue berries and a couple extra veggies. Worked out great!

I have a very picky dog who I have been unsuccessful multiple times with getting him to eat various foods. I started making a dog food in the crockpot and he would only eat it when it was fresh. Often snubbing his nose at it later. I started making this for my two small dogs and they both LOVE it. The picky pup dances when I get it out to feed him now. I mix it with a little kibble and freeze it in smaller packages. This recipe lasts about 4 weeks for us.

This is so easy to make and my dogs absolutely love it! The cost savings is substantial compared to canned food and my daughter is leaning how to cook making homemade dog food with me. It’s a win win! This is my 2nd time making this recipe.

Add cottage cheese, egg and pumpkin to complete the nutrition.

My dogs love this! I double the recipe, vary up the vegetables from time to time, and add ground egg shells for calcium. Awesome recipe! Thank you!!!

I have actually been making this recipe for several months now. My three large dogs love it! They are disappointed if they don’t have this at virtually every meal.

This recipe is great. I needed to make some bland food for my dog for a couple of days to get him feeling better (vets recommendation) and this was perfect. My dog gobbled it up and just loved it! This will be a good recipe to have in my back pocket. I did make it without the veggies (vets recommendation) to be extra easy on my little guys stomach.

My pup hasn’t been eating his own dog food. I have tried different brands of kibble from expensive to MORE expensive and nothing. Tried can dog food and he ate it for a bit but his tummy didnt like it. Poor boy. Found this recipe and I have6 made it twice now (I cut the recipe in half cause my baby is a Chiweenie and i was wasting too much due to his tummy size. Well i have added apples and this last time I added sweet potato and he loves it!!! I will continue made this while I switch up veggies to keep the variety up.

I have made this dog food many times for my dog. Unfortunately I was having a problem with the rice burning on the bottom. So I switched it up a bit and have had no more problems with burnt rice ever since. First I add water to the pot and heat until boiling. Then I add the frozen veggies and stir. When it stars to boil again I add the cut up chicken. Finally, when that starts to boil I add the rice. Stir briefly and then put on the lid, lower the heat, and simmer for the 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Works great!

This is a great meal. We put all fresh vegetables bought from the local road side stands of neighbors and the amish. We included zucchini, yellow squash, celery, carrots, and broccoli. Instead of 6-1/2 cups water, we used 4 cups bone broth we made from the chickens. Bone broth has a LOT of vitamins and minerals, including glucosamine and chondroitin. We also used only 3 cups Long Grain Brown Rice instead of white. AND we have always given garlic in small quantities to our Labs. This keeps away fleas. I read all the time where others say garlic is toxic to dogs. Well, it IS also toxic to people, yet we eat it. As long as you do not overdue it on the garlic, it is fine. An article I read said one clove for a large breed. Clove sizes vary greatly! We put in about a teaspoon for the entire amount. My one dog is diabetic. Since being on this food her insulin levels have been 150 points lower. She still gets insulin but less. They are now on day 2 of this dog food. I also entered the nutrients used in this recipe into a nutrient calculator online. It gives most of what they need per day. We mixed with a 1/4 amount of their grain free holistic dog food for added crunch. As a snack to keep teeth clean, we give raw carrots. We still will give them a supplement. Human grade for works just as well as pet grade per my vet. Update: 11/18/18 – We are nearly approaching month 3 of this dog food. Our dogs look FABULOUS!!! When we make this, as another gentleman said, rice wil

I used a mix of ground turkey and ground beef . I also used a Minute Rice Medley with quinoa, brown, red and wild rice. Add the water the rice recipe calls for. The dogs love it and I feel good giving them real food.
