Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon garlic salt
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon celery salt
Instructions
- Mix together oregano, salt, parsley, garlic salt, onion powder, sugar, pepper, basil, thyme, and celery salt in a bowl. Store in a tightly sealed container until ready to use.
- To make the Italian dressing, whisk together 2/3 cup canola oil, 1/4 cup white vinegar, 2 tablespoons water, and 2 tablespoons dry Italian dressing mix in a bowl.

Looks so much more delicious than any store bought mix (and I prefer my dressings to be fresh from my own garden and green, so I air dry all of my home grown herbs and use them). Mixed up a batch to use tomorrows on a marinated tomato recipe.
I make this and use in on my macaroni salad in replace of mayonnaise. It’s great!
Hey Salt complainers this recipe makes 4 batches of dressing! Use only 2 Tbsp. of the completed recipe seasoning mix per batch with the liquid ingredients as noted! So you still might want to reduce some salt if you need to watch your sodium intake, BUT IT IS NOT crazy over salty. Thanks for this recipe, delicious!

So happy to find a recipe for this mix! I followed some of the other tips and reduced the salt by one Tablespoon and used garlic powder instead of garlic salt. It was delicious!
I made this exactly as written, except I only had celery seed; and used two level tablespoons in the oil, vinegar and water as stated. It was still really salty when I tasted it. This might not be true once it’s on salad. I think the herb ingredients are perfect.
I love the little name-brand Italian salad dressing packets as well as the ones from Aldi but was not loving the price, even at only $0.50 per packet. I also like knowing what’s in the dressing mix instead of all the extra ingredients manufacturers add. I made a double batch of this mix last night and whipped up a batch of dressing and it was delicious. I did make a couple of alterations: I substituted celery seed and granulated garlic for the celery salt and garlic salt as I try to watch my sodium intake. I also like my dressing to be on the thicker side so I added a bit less than 1/4 tsp of xanthan gum powder that I had on hand. I may test the dressing without it next time to see how thin it is without it. Thank you for posting this recipe!
Excellent blend of herbs and spices in good proportions. I ran the blend through my Magic Bullet grinder so that the fine and leafy ingredients would be more completely mixed and flavors balanced.
This is the absolute best Italian mix I’ve come across. I use it for salads, pasta salads, marinades. I’ve used so many different types of vinegars and it’s still great. I love that I can adjust the ratios of anything in it and it still tastes great.
Stop with the salt complaints and read the instructions. ONLY USE 2 TBS OF THIS MIXTURE WITH THE CUP OF LIQUIDS. if you pour the entire mixture into a cup of the liquids (vinegar, oil, water) it WILL be salty. This recipe will make 7-8 cups of dressing. Sheesh.

I used half the salt, a little less garlic salt, and no celery salt when I made this and it was STILL too salty. Maybe the portions are a typo? It’s waaaay too much salt and will make your food inedible.

When I made this for my Mom I omitted the salt and substituted garlic powder for the garlic salt due to sodium restrictions.
Use in place of Italian dressing mix for Italian beef. Made one third of recipe.
Changed garlic salt and celery salt to garlic powder and celery seed. Only used 1/4 teaspoon salt. Used in another recipe where a packet of Good Seasons Italian Dressing mix was to be included. Was perfect.
This is a family favorite! I make a large amount of the mix and put it in a mason jar to mix with the wet ingredients when we run out. We love adding a heaping teaspoon of mayo to make it creamy Italian. I never add the celery salt because I don’t care for it, and I make my own garlic powder. I don’t think I have had any complaints with the amount of salt.
I reduced the salt to about 1/2 tsp as other users suggested and used garlic powder instead of garlic salt. It was incredibly flavorful and this is now my go-to dressing. I didn’t realize until after I combined all the dry ingredients that it only calls for 2 tbsp of the mixture and you’ll have leftover seasoning ready to use in the future.
I wish I had read reviews before I made this because I would have loved it other than the excess salt. I don’t think it’s fair to modify a recipe and give it 5 stars. I was in a hurry and saw great reviews on this (stars) and made it as is. I’ll give it 3 as written. I’ll make it again with no added salt and I’m sure it will be a five star recipe then.
