Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds lean ground beef, frozen
  2. 1 yellow onion, finely diced
  3. 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  4. 2 tablespoons chili powder
  5. 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  6. 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  7. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  8. Taco shells, heated according to package instructions
  9. Assorted toppings for serving, such as sour cream, shredded Cheddar, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, avocado, sliced black olives, hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Put 1 cup of water and the beef into a 6-quart Instant Pot®. Follow the manufacturer’s guide for locking the lid and preparing to cook. Set to pressure cook on manual high pressure for 10 minutes (see Cook’s Note).
  2. After the pressure cook cycle is complete, follow the manufacturer’s guide for quick release and wait until the quick release cycle is complete. Be careful of any remaining steam and unlock and remove the lid.
  3. Turn the pot to the saute function and stir in the onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin, cornstarch, 1 tablespoon salt and 2 teaspoons pepper until combined and the meat is broken up. Let simmer until thickened and the onions are softened, about 8 minutes.
  4. Serve with the taco shells and toppings.

This was a wonderfully easy and tasty way to do tacos. Everything worked exactly as described.

So easy and I love how fast and convenient it is to make on such a busy schedule

Flavor profile was good, but like others have stated: you cannot cook a frozen block of ground beef in 10 minutes.  After the 10m “defrost”, as I’ll call it, I had to break off the cooked surface and put the Instant Pot on sauté until the beef was cooked.  It’s a whole lot easier just to used beef that isn’t frozen (tastes better fresh, anyway!) and cook it in a skillet on your range.

I wonder why my meat did not turn out great like the other reviews? I cooked the meat in my pressure cooker like the directions stated and it was still frozen and raw in the middle. So I did the process again with the exact same amount of time and it cooked through. But don’t expect the meat to be all broken up like the video. It was still in a block shape and had to be broken up.

Taste great and easy to prepare

This recipe is a lie. Wasted 2 lbs of meat which never thawed even after 30 mins (as someone mentioned the same issue and added 20 mins) and there was water in the pot.
