To boil eggs perfectly, use your multicooker or Instant Pot! Depending on their size, you can cook more or fewer eggs. I can generally accommodate 16, but if your eggs are bigger, the quantity may change.
Prep Time: | 5 mins |
Cook Time: | 15 mins |
Additional Time: | 10 mins |
Total Time: | 30 mins |
Servings: | 16 |
Yield: | 16 hard-boiled eggs |
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 16 eggs
Instructions
- Insert a wire rack at the bottom of a multifunctional pressure cooker, such as an Instant Pot. Pour in water. Carefully place raw eggs onto the rack, tightly fitting them in. Close and lock the lid.
- Select High pressure, according to the manufacturer’s instructions; set a timer for 4 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
- As soon as the timer goes off, hit cancel and release pressure using the quick-release method, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, about 5 minutes. Unlock and remove the lid, as leaving eggs in longer will overcook eggs.
- Transfer eggs to a large bowl using a serving spoon and cover with cold water. Let cool for 5 minutes. Peel while still warm and rinse off any shell pieces. Use immediately or store in the fridge.
Reviews
I followed recipe exactly and the eggs were not even close to cooked. There’s a few other reviews like this.
Wow now this made perfect eggs with no mess like it is on the stove. Just set it and go! Must try.
5.28.2021 Using the Instant Pot® to make hard cooked eggs is a game changer. If done right they will slip right out of their shells. Many pots cook differently so what may work for one may not for another. I have found the sweet spot for my pot is to cook for 7 minutes, natural release for 6 and into a cold water before peeling. Any less than that and my eggs are too soft and do not peel easy. So if the timing of this recipe doesn’t work for your pot do not be discouraged and try again. You’ll be glad you did.
If it matters, I used large brown cage free eggs. This makes for a thicker shell and maybe why reviewers are having different results. I only put in 6 eggs because that’s all I needed and I made sure to use the same amount of water. I set the pressure cooker to four minutes and sealed the valve. I accidentally let it go for one minute longer before I released the steam. I followed the rest of the recipe completely and mine came out great. I would stand and watch it to prevent that minute of cook time if I make it again. I can’t see why I wouldn’t use this recipe in the future. It was extremely easy and a very tasty result was the outcome. Not to mention the peel method was extremely effective and effortless. Thank you for the wonderful recipe. I’m sure I’ll make it again.
The directions in Step 3 are not correct for hard boiled eggs. Using quick release after the 4 minute cook time produces soft boiled eggs with jammy centers as shown in my photo. Step 3 should say, let the pressure release naturally for 5 minutes, then quick release remaining pressure.
I love making eggs in the Instant Pot! This recipe needs to have a natural release time of 5 minutes before the quick release, which I anticipated in advance so they turned out great.
Excellent! Very easy to peel!
Super good and tender. I followed the recipe to the letter.
works well perfect eggs
Perfect recipe!
I’m quite new with an instant pot, but this recipe was so easy and my eggs turned out just wonderful. I chose 5 minutes cook time. Give this recipe a try, you’ll be happy you did.
Followed this recipe cooking 4 eggs, and they turned out soft boiled. Yuk
I made your receipe EXACTLY as written but the yolks came out liquid raw. Gross! Later, I viewed some other instant pot recipes for hard boiled eggs and they had 5 or more minutes of pressure cook time plus waiting 5 minutes before putting them ice water.
I just can never get eggs to peel properly, but the insides were perfect.
My new way to hard boil eggs. Did the 5,5,5 and when I peeled the eggs, the shells just slipped off.
I found the 5-5-5 method the best. 4 minutes were not enough and 6 minutes too long. 5 minutes were perfect.
Will never make hard eggs any other way!!
THIS IS KEY: Buy eggs about a week before prep. If eggs are too fresh, they will be hard to peel. My recipe is 5-4-5: five minutes for pressure to build; 4 minutes to cook; 5 minutes natural reduce pressure. (Pressure build may be longer — depends on model.) Quick release then move eggs to ice water bath before peeling.
Great boiled eggs.
I do large eggs, set my timer for 3 minutes and instant release for bright yellow yolk, no green coloring
I love making hard boiled eggs in the instant pot. They are perfect every time. I use the 5-5-5 method just to make it easy to remember. Set pot on high and timer for 5 minutes and then the same as the instructions here for the rest except i put them in a bowl of ice water to cool.
