Yield: 15 cookies

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups whole-wheat flour, plus more for rolling
  2. 1/2 cup cornmeal
  3. 1/2 cup wheat germ
  4. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  5. 3 large eggs
  6. 1/4 cup carob chips
  7. 1/4 cup honey
  8. 2 to 3 tablespoons water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone baking sheets.
  2. Put the flour, cornmeal, wheat germ, and cinnamon into a large bowl and whisk to combine. Add the eggs, carob chips, honey, and 1 tablespoon water. Use your hands to mix the ingredients together and form a smooth dough. If it feels too dry, add more water. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest 10 minutes. (Can be made ahead and refrigerated, just let it warm up a bit before rolling.)
  3. Dust your counter with some flour and roll the dough out until it is 1/4-inch thick using more flour as needed so it doesn’t stick. Cut into shapes using a dog bone shaped cookie cutter, or use a knife to make the same shape. You can re-roll the scraps and cut out more cookies. Place on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the cookies are well browned. Remove them to a wire rack to cool completely.

I forgot to add that I make these all of the time and they are so easy! I keep all of the ingredients in my pantry. This recipe can’t be easier. Please try it and you won’t be disappointed!

I made these cookies for my dogs. I read the review that corn is bad for dogs. It was corn meal not gluten which was one of the ingredients found in the recalled dog foods. I make cookies for my dogs alot and most of them have some corn meal in them. My dogs loved them. Infact I made three batches and froze them. I didn’t roll out the dough. I formed a log and after refridgerating it the required 30 min I sliced them and baked them. I was able to get atleast 30 cookies out of the roll this way. Depends on how large you cut them of course!
My dogs are older and have stomach issues so I make whatever I can for them this wayI know whats in them.

Google “is corn good for dogs” and you will see that corn is not digestible for dogs. It leads to obesity and a spike in glucose levels. Sub anything but don’t use the corn in this!!!

Here is a list of foods to avoid feeding your dogs:

Really tasty, Fido loved it. I found the carob chips at Whole Foods. For the owners it tasted better while still warm!
