I will always try a recipe with the most ratings, read suggestions and make it. Aguas frescas, I don’t add sugar, I let the individual add their own sugar or sugar substitute. The 2nd batch I made, I actually made cinnamon tea, boiled the cinnamon sticks, cooled and soaked the rice in it. This was a simple, tasty, quick recipe and I’ve made it 3 times already. This is a can’t go wrong recipe and exact measurements are not critical. You can add more or less and it would still taste good. My next batch I’m making with Saigon cinnamon sticks, for me it’s next level taste, sure to make this Horchata even better. Cinnamon powder, just a little, was sprinkled only for extra… better looking presentation.
I’ve made it a couple time with my granddaughter and really enjoyed
Sweet, a bit watery, but tastes good in a pinch. No clue what Brenda did to ruin it, looks like she substituted milk with homemade yogurt by accident. I added a little bourbon.
This recipe was delicious! The family loved it. A did tweak the recipe a bit, though. Here’s what I did: -added 1/4c sweetened condensed milk to the milk. -let sit overnight (12hrs) -blended the water and rice with one jumbo cinnamon stick. These changes made the horchata thicker and sweeter. If you’d like a less sweet version of this take, I recommend halving the sugar.
I loved how simple it was to make nothing too complicated. Instead of milk, I used almond milk for me and my mother. And for the sugar part, I used monk sweetner which is a great substitute to sugar. Tastes almost the same. We both loved it. I insisted on giving some workers a taste of it, but by the time I came back it was all finished cause she got real thirsty of the hot weather lol.
Yummy!
I like it 🙂
Pretty good version of this classic. A little sweet for my personal taste. There is plenty of room to modulate ingredients for that!
Very, very sweet. Next time I would reduce the sugar.
This was okay as written, but I found that a 1/2 tsp of salt made all the flavors come alive.
Way too watery, it looks nothing like horchata. It looks like brown cinnamon water and it taste like pure sugar. I decided to try this recipe out and it is a huge disappointment. Lots of different things wrong with this recipe, not authentic horchata.
Followed as written except added ground cinnamon while rice was soaking in the water, then strained. Also only added 1/3 c sugar which was plenty. Really good!
Overall, a delicious recipe! It doesn’t make much so will add more milk to the recipe as others claim that it works well. Other than that, I used ground cinnamon-it just doesn’t mix well. So I did skim off quite a bit of the cinnamon from the top with a fine mesh screen and that worked perfectly. What a wonderful drink!
Overall tasty. Soaked the water and rice overnight. I wish it was thicker. Also, I love sweet but I would add less sugar next time.
I’ve made this a couple of times and it’s turned out great each time. I used cinnamon stick instead of ground and let it sit overnight. I also used my coffee grinder instead of a blender. 5 cups isn’t enough so I doubled the recipe.
I added 1 cup of milk (1/2 cup water 1/2 cup evaporated milk) I like it a lot, but it is not as authentic as I like.
This was delicious, after a few modifications: I added two cinnamon sticks in the beginning instead of adding cinnamon powder later. In terms of the other ingredients, I used half the sugar, 2/3 times the vanilla, and 1.5 times the milk. This resulted in the right level of sweetness for me.
We have made this once but it was great!
I just tasted my finished product, and yum, yum, yum! I followed others’ advice and blended the rice mixture with cinnamon sticks and doubled the milk (2%). Being diabetic, I substituted Stevia for the sugar, so now I dont have to feel too guilty about indulging. Thank you for an easy to follow recipe!
I do not recommend substituting almond milk, came out too watery. Otherwise super yummy!
This absolutely delicious and easy to make. My whole family loved it.
