Ingredients

  1. 1 pound pork sausage meat
  2. 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  3. 4 hard-cooked eggs, peeled
  4. 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  5. ⅛ teaspoon salt
  6. ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
  7. 1 egg, beaten
  8. ⅔ cup dry bread crumbs
  9. 1 quart oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, mix together the pork sausage and Worcestershire sauce. Combine the flour, salt and pepper; mix into the sausage.
  2. Divide the sausage into four equal parts. Mold each part around one of the hard-cooked eggs, rolling between your hands to shape. Place the beaten egg and bread crumbs into separate dishes. Dip the balls into the egg, then roll in the bread crumbs until coated. Shake off any excess.
  3. Heat the oil in a large saucepan or deep fryer to 365 degrees F (180 degrees C), or until a cube of bread dropped into the oil turns brown in 1 minute. Lower the eggs carefully into the hot oil. Fry for 5 minutes, or until deep golden brown.
  4. Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil and immediately remove from heat. Cover and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, and peel.

This is a great recipe; I discovered it years ago and have made my own alterations. I can get an dozen eggs by using less sausage per egg. I fry a few minutes in oil to get that crispy texture then bake at 400 for 1/2 an hour. This time around I remembered something I’d read who knows where, and wet my hands between eggs. It worked much better than coating my hands with flour to prevent the sausage sticking to my hands.

I prepped the meat beforehand with hand sized amounts of meat (1/4 inch think) and departed them with plastic wrap. Made building the scotch egg much easier.

We wrapped these bad boys in Bacon before frying. I can hear our arteries clogging as we eat! We fried the whole thing for about four minutes the into a 350 oven for about 20 minutes.

Not an overly complicated dish to cook, and my family absolutely enjoy them every time I make ’em. Great for a quick breakfast if cooked prior, they make a great picnic snack. I would recommend them for any function.

I made the recipe as directed and they turned out well. I also tried a few variations with panko and baked. Baked at 400 degree for 40 minute! Turned out well. For a guten free option, used rice chex instead of bread crumbs and baked! Sometime, I eat it with white rice for breakfast.

I will be making it again, it is one of my family favorites and mine I did have a recipe but lost so I thought I would look it up on here and was very when I found one but very disappointed when all they are is fried . Bake is the way to go with this. 350* I did for 25 minutes but will probably go longer next time. maybe 30 min.

Nice recipe. Deep fried and then baked in oven at 350 for about 30 minutes. Rolls were too big. Could probably get 6-8 eggs out of it next time. Also gonna try substituting 1 pound hot Italian sausage next time. Made a spicy Bearnaise sauce for dipping.

We absolutely loved these! Perfect snack. I serve with some HP Sauce and English mustard on the side to choose from for dipping. Our local English Pub makes these and this recipe was right on par.

I used 5 eggs, but next time will do 6. Liked the recipe and was pretty simple. I used hot sausage, but will do half turkey, half sausage like others suggested next time. I baked them and they came out nice and crip.

As I live alone I make several serving to freeze. I added 3 cloves of garlic, jalapeno chilies, sprinkle of Worcestershire sauce and varieties of cooked veggies to containers prior to freezing.
