Homemade fries

Using the Philips Airfryer, it is possible to prepare fries of restaurant quality at home. You only need potatoes and one tablespoon of oil to create these. Set the timer, oil the chopped potatoes, and place them in the basket. I’m done now!

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Additional Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 (200 gram) servings

Ingredients

  1. 800 grams waxy potatoes
  2. 1 tablespoon olive oil
  3. salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into long, 8 mm thick French fries. (You can use a French fry cutter for this.)
  2. Soak the fries in water for at least 30 minutes. Drain them thoroughly, then pat them dry with kitchen paper.
  3. Heat the Philips Airfryer to 320 degrees F (160 degrees C).
  4. Put the fries in a large bowl, drizzle with the oil and toss to coat them. Transfer them to the Philips Airfryer basket. Slide the basket into the Philips Airfryer and set the timer for 18 minutes.
  5. When the timer rings, slide out the basket and shake the fries. Adjust the temperature to 180C and set the timer for another 12 minutes.
  6. After 6 minutes, slide out the basket and shake the fries again.
  7. Fry until the timer rings and the fries are golden brown. Sprinkle with salt and serve on a platter.

Not high enough temperature to create a crispy fry. I will go back to my previous method.

The temperatures just don’t seem high enough to make decent fries. They never did brown. I won’t make this recipe, again.

I used the Copper Chef air fryer and the Presto Tater Twister to make curly fries.. I soaked them over an hour, drained and patted dry, added olive oil and salt in a bag and shook, then followed the given instructions for cooking. Will turn them more often next time and not cook quite as long. Some were too overdone.

Air fryer newbie here, don’t overload the basket, be sure to remove the basket and shake it every four minutes, less oil, but very good and not greasy at all. Loved it. Thank you. I would post a pic but I ate them all.

I hadn’t used my air fryer and this was great recipe. I did cut my potatoes, and soaked them in water. Then I put them into a gallon zip bag with vegetable oil. I used kosher salt on them when they were done cooking.

This is a good recipe, however, I recommend doing more shakes throughout the cooking time. I also adjusted the temperature to 175C and shook the basket every 3 to 4 minutes. You probably even need more frequent shakes if you’re cutting the fries thinner. I soaked the cut fries in water with a teaspoon of baking soda for 30 minutes. Will use this recipe quite frequently!

Very impressed. For such a simple recipe it was delicious! My family loved it. I double the recipe for my family of 5 and added a squirt of sweet and spicy bbq sauce. Added some homemade french fries and this was a hit. Easy weekday dinner. Will be making this again for sure. The double recipe left enough for after school sandwiches for the kids. Yum!

This was a great recipe! I did add season salt during the cooking and at the end.

Made these as my first air fryer recipe. I need to get used to the fryer, but for my first attempt, I thought these were really good. Not greasy at all. Definitely needed seasoning.

we are new to air baking and found that the first batch of fries were slightly greasy and the bottom of the basket wasn’t cooked or brown as shown in the photos.

I added old bay to mine. Took a little longer to cook cause I think for my first time had too many fries in basket.

Very good!

Excellent! I think I may have cooked them a tad too long but will shorten that the next time I make these. SO good! Thanks for sharing this.

I used a different Air Fryer and it works well with other brands. Lawry’s seasoned salt is nice too.

The main reason we purchased the airfryer was for french fries. They are crispy outside and fluffy inside. The fact that they are healthy keeps them on the table weekly, whereas before we only ate them on special occasions. They are truly a delight. The kids and their friends even know how to make them on their own and have stopped eating greasy fries from fast food joints. This recipe is spot on down to the minute.
