Ingredients
- 1 (14 ounce) package Hillshire Farm® Smoked Sausage, bias-sliced 1/2-inch thick
- 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon minced shallot
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 1 ½ teaspoons Dijon-style mustard
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- 1 ½ pounds Brussels sprouts, thinly sliced
- ½ medium red onion, thinly sliced
- ½ cup toasted walnuts, coarsely chopped
- ½ cup dried cranberries
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook and stir sausage slices over medium heat about 5 minutes or until browned. Set aside to cool slightly.
- For vinaigrette, in a small bowl, combine cider vinegar, shallot, honey, mustard, salt, and pepper. Slowly whisk in olive oil and beat until combined.
- In a large bowl, combine cooked sausage, Brussels sprouts, red onion, walnuts, and dried cranberries. Drizzle with vinaigrette. Gently toss.
- Serve immediately or cover and chill up to 4 hours.
- Feel free to substitute onion for the shallot.

The variety of flavors in the salad were excellent. If I were to make again, I might steam the Brussels Sprouts for a minute or two, just so they were not raw. I did use cashews, as that is what I had. I also used pomegranate Craisins. I highly recommend them in this! Overall, would be great side salad in a potluck.
I really enjoyed this salad. In my opinion, there should be either less Brussels sprouts or more of everything else, including dressing. I used pecans instead of walnuts because they were what I had. I totally forgot them when I took the picture but remembered with the first bite. I especially like the crunch of this fresh salad.
Really enjoyed the tangy, sweet and crunchy flavor and texture of this salad. I would use fewer brussels sprouts next time and more dressing.
I used Hillshire Farm Turkey Sausage, and followed the recipe to a “t”. I really liked the sausage, walnuts, dried cranberries and the dressing, but I did not care for the raw brussels sprouts. I think if I make this again, I’ll just use mixed salad greens instead. The raw brussels sprouts gave it a bitter taste, in my opinion.
I changed the recipe by adding three big spoonfuls of bacon grease and I did not add the sugar to the recipe. It turned out delicious.
I didn’t have any walnuts, so I used sunflower seeds. That’s the only change I made. I will probably make this again. I could not, however, figure out why it’s so high in carbs. The only reason I can see is the cranberries, but, even then, you get only a couple of cranberries in a serving of salad.

Review is under my picture. Small changes. Spam instead of sausage. Steamable package of fresh brussel sprouts, cut then shredded them. Toasted my own walnuts. Used only purple onion asked for, not shallots. So good.
