This was a quick and easy side dish that we liked. I poured the olive oil on the beans and stirred until they were coated Then I added the crumb mixture and stirred again. I only had plain bread crumbs. I think the seasoned crumbs are a must.
this was delicious – I added crumbled bacon – there were no leftovers!!!
Love this super simple tasty recipe. I used butter instead of evoo.
my family loved it, though i would like to know what is the history of the recipe since i am doing it for a Italian Humanities class.
I thought this was worth a try rather than regular green beans with butter, salt and pepper or casserole. This was a hit two times that I made it for a not so veggie friendly crowd……..I must confess, I do not measure when I cook all the time. Use your common sense as far as boiling them. You do not want them mushy, but not raw either, a little crunch. The oil and breadcrumbs blended nicely. As far as a “sandy” taste, I have no idea why this would happen. I did not experience that one bit. As one of the reviewers did, I am also making them this Christmas and will be putting them in the fridge and will heat up in the oven before dinner. 5 stars on this simple easy recipe.
Didn’t knock our socks off. Followed the recipe- the beans were too hard and the bread crumbs didn’t help. I might have to go back and read some reviews and see what others did to rate this so high. I’ll give it another shot though.
Awesome choice, little required. I had some leftover chicken strips from the day before, threw that in the salad and it was great. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy!
I followed the recipe But found that in my saucepan more than 1/2 cup of water was needed for the beans. I think it depends upon the pot. Other than that the beans were very good.
Family enjoyed these green beans served with my spaghetti so I think I will be using these whenever I have an Italian main dish.. I’m not a big fan of olive oil for flavoring so I substituted the same amount of butter and doubled all the spices.
I make this, but I only blanch the beans, than I saute them in olive oil and a little butter sprinkling the breadcrumbs on top and this way they get coated better. I also make them with yellow beans. Yum.
Great recipe. Made it twice and both times people asked for the recipe.
My household loved this side
Only once before have I wanted to gobble up green beans like I did with this recipe! It was absolutely delish!
I made this for my grandchildren (ages 6 – 17 yrs) and they ate it up! Easy to make and flavorful.
This was not good at all.
I was skeptical of this recipe! Didn’t think these ingredients together would taste good, but I had several cans of french-style green beans and needed a veggie side one night. Other than substituting canned for fresh beans and heating till most water evaporated, I followed the recipe exactly. Pleasantly surprised!!
i have made this several times and its always been a major success. i myself have never been a huge fan of green beans until i made it for a small dinner party and now its the only recipe i’l use for green beans.
I’ve made this recipe a few times for family gatherings, and they always get rave reviews! More than a couple of people have asked me for the recipe. You do have to make sure to not overcook the green beans, but even if you do, it still tastes good. I add in some onion powder and double the garlic powder (or add in minced garlic). They do not make good leftovers because they get soggy, but they taste so good that there are usually no leftovers.
Awesome! My husband is usually very complimentary of my cooking, but I love it when he describes it as ” restaurant quality”! I needed something to go with chicken scampi and this was perfect.
I left the bread crumbs out since I have Celiac Disease and just loved the flavor combination with the oil, basil, oregano and garlic.
Easy to prepare, great taste. 4-22-13: Great this time, too.
