The low-fat, chocolatey alternative to a cake made with butter is this Greek yogurt chocolate cake!

Ingredients

  1. 1 ¾ cups self-rising flour
  2. 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  3. ⅛ teaspoon salt
  4. 2 cups white sugar
  5. 1 cup water
  6. 2 eggs
  7. ¼ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  8. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Sift flour, cocoa powder, and salt together in a bowl. Mix sugar, water, eggs, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract together in another bowl using an electric mixer.
  3. Gradually add flour-cocoa mixture into the bowl with yogurt mixture. Mix until well blended. Pour batter into two 9-inch cake pans.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the centers comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes.
  5. Feel free to substitute milk for the water.

An easy recipe which produces a delicious rich cake. I am not sure whether the Greeks use any icing or frosting as the texture is quite heavy, almost like a dessert.
