Grandma’s Molasses Ginger Cookies

My mum used to prepare this dish. It always has been my favorite because of its lovely custardy tangy sweetness.

Ingredients

  1. 1 ½ cups sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  2. 2 sticks butter, softened
  3. ¾ cup Grandma’s® Original Molasses
  4. 1 egg
  5. 1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
  6. 3 cups flour, plus more for dusting
  7. 1 teaspoon Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
  8. 1 teaspoon Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
  9. 1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Ground Nutmeg
  10. 1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Ground Cloves
  11. 1 tablespoon Spice Islands® Ground Ginger
  12. 1 tablespoon Spice Islands ® Ground Saigon Cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whip together sugar, butter, molasses, egg, and vanilla. Mix in flour, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon until dough comes together. Wrap well and refrigerate 8 hours to overnight.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. Roll cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll in sugar to coat. Arrange on rimmed baking sheets. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  4. Substitute margarine for butter, if desired.

I tried this recipe instead of my usual molasses cookie recipe and wasn’t a fan. The amount of molasses is huge and overpowers and other flavor in the cookie
