Yield: 12 cupcakes

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  3. 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  4. 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  5. 2/3 cup sugar
  6. 1 1/2 sticks (6 ounces) unsalted butter, melted
  7. 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  8. 1/2 cup milk
  9. 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and position a rack in the middle of the oven. Line one 12-cup standard muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together in a medium bowl.
  3. In another medium bowl, beat the eggs and sugar with an electric mixer until light and foamy, about 2 minutes. While beating, gradually pour in the butter and then the vanilla.
  4. While mixing slowly, add half the dry ingredients. Then add all the milk and follow with the rest of the dry ingredients. Take care not to overmix the batter.
  5. Remove one-third of the batter (about 1 cup) and stir in the cocoa powder. Fill the liners evenly with alternating spoonfuls of yellow and chocolate batter. Tap the tin firmly on the counter a few times to even out the batter.
  6. Bake until a tester inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean, 18 to 20 minutes. Cool the cupcakes on a rack in the tin for 10 minutes, and then remove from the tin. Cool on the rack completely. Decorate as desired.

While the marbling’s not really visible on the outside of the cupcake, it looked good when cut in half. Added a tad more milk to the chocolate batter and the cupcakes turned out moist and well-baked through. Will be using this recipe again

Not good at all. Very bland, cant taste vanilla or chocolate. It made a decent size and puffed up right but taste was a zero
Kelly Atkins
Perfect but I decreased the cooking tome so they were way more moist

These turned out really dry!  I was so disappointed.  Bummer

I made it for my grandpa’s birthday. It worked wonderfully

The whole reason I researched this article is to learn how to marble. This “according to the marbling method you are following” is not helpful.
