Gluten-Free Stuffing

I tried a number of gluten-free stuffing recipes, but none were to my daughter’s taste, so I made the decision to try making my own. I hope you take pleasure in it as much as we do!

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup butter, softened, divided
  2. 1 ½ loaves gluten-free bread
  3. 1 pound ground turkey
  4. 3 tablespoons sage
  5. 1 tablespoon celery salt
  6. 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  7. 1 onion, diced
  8. 1 apple, diced
  9. 3 stalks celery, diced
  10. ½ (8 ounce) package mushrooms, diced
  11. 1 cup chicken broth
  12. ¾ cup heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread butter onto both sides of each bread slice; arrange on baking sheets.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until bread is toasted, 5 to 10 minutes.
  4. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir turkey in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease.
  5. Crumble bread into a large bowl; mix in sage, celery salt, and black pepper.
  6. Heat remaining butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir onion, apple, celery, and mushrooms in the hot butter until tender, 5 to 10 minutes.
  7. Stir onion mixture into bread mixture; add turkey, chicken broth, and cream. Gently stir until mixture is evenly combined; spread into the prepared baking dish and cover with aluminum foil.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove foil and cook until top is browned, about 20 minutes more.
  9. I toast a combination of Udi’s(R) white bread and hamburger buns. I have used Mutsu and Waltana apples and both work great. Any cooking apple will do.

Came out fantastic! I used ground turkey sausage and added slightly less of the heavy cream/chicken broth mixture.

This was soooooooo good!!!!!! I wasn’t sure about the apples, but they were a great addition. I wouldn’t change a thing, it was perfect as is. Thanks for a great recipe!

This is going to be the stuffing I use from now on. It was very very good. I did stuff the turkey with it and it was fine. I don’t know why all the gluten free stuffing recipes put it on the side of the turkey in a baking dish…..great!
