Excellent recipe, my family loved it. Have made this many times with various fresh, frozen, canned fruit. I use apple juice or milk for the juice ingredient many times. I also mixed cinnamon with the fruit after the first time which makes it even better.

We love this recipe. It’s simple and incredibly delicious. You can substitute blueberries, raspberries, or a mix of the two and it still works great. Any juice will work, but I like apple. Don’t skip the juice. The batter doesn’t mix properly without it.

I’d been looking for a good cobbler recipe that has the fruit throughout the cake, rather than biscuit-like lumps on top of the fruit, and this one works great. I didn’t have fresh blackberries, so I used a combination of frozen mixed fruit (which included blackberries, as well as raspberries and blueberries), additional frozen blueberries, and some chopped up canned peaches. I let all of the frozen fruit thaw before using it, of course. Part of the reason I used canned peaches was that I didn’t have any blackberry juice or syrup and needed the peach syrup to substitute. The result tasted great and had the texture I like. I overbaked it a little bit, but it didn’t dry out. Really a great, versatile, and somewhat forgiving recipe!

I made this quick dessert last night using service berries. It turned out great and my guests loved it. I mixed the berries into the batter, and used muddled berries instead of berry juice. I put raw sugar on the top. I used a 8″ pie plate instead of a rectangle dish. The texture was more of a cake. This dish would be even better “ala mode”. The recipe is a keeper!

Best cobbler basics! As some have done, I’ve tweaked mine. I use whatever cobbler/pie fruit is ripe, use preserves instead of juice, added vanilla to the batter, and used 1/8 cup of sugar on top before placing in the oven. Mix up the berries and preserves to your liking! Tonight I’m making blueberries, strawberries and cherries with raspberry preserves. Freezing my kitchen tools and cream (just until cold not iced) to make whipped cream later. So fresh, so very good!!!

Absolutely delicious! Very forgiving if you don’t have blackberry juice. Just use milk. Delicious. I always double and family (5of is) ear every bit. Thank you for a great recipe that has less butter than my moms original recipe.

Delicious! The baking powder made it taste a little salty so I reduced it to 1 1/2 tsp. Also omitted the water and mixed the white sugar in a bowl with the fruit and stirred it until it made its own syrup before putting it on the batter.

Best recipe I’ve tried

it was a great recipe and very easy to make but isn’t much if a cobbler. it tastes more like a cake with berries on it, but all in all it was very tasty!

Sooo yummy! My family raved about it and ate it all in one sitting! I had to make more! My blackberries were picked two days ago and had been sitting in the fridge, so they were PLENTY juicy, I didn’t add any extra liquid. I also forgot to add the 1/2 cup of sugar on top, and when I tried the finished cobbler, I was so glad I did. It was PERFECT without the extra sugar. I love that there are like two steps and few ingredients. My new favorite blackberry recipe for sure.

Quick and easy. Did not change a thing. Everyone liked it.

Excellent non-traditional cobbler! Dough had a fluffy light consistency as opposed to the more traditional biscuit dough. However was still substantial enough to hold all the berries. Really good recipe, very simple and scalable (made 1 1/2 recipe). I used fresh blueberries and blackberries, and apple juice for the top liquid. Wonderful.
Misty Brown
Easy and tasty. Will make again.

Made it with blueberries and it was delicious

Fantastic! I substituted peaches for some of the berries and used peach juice.

Did not have a 9×9 pan so I used a deep pie dish. Easy and quick. We loved the flavor and the texture of the crust/biscuit. Can’t wait to try this with other fresh fruit like peaches!!

This turned out amazing. I tweaked it slightly by stirring the sugar into the blackberries instead of sprinkling on top. I had no blackberry juice (who ever would?) so I just put milk in the blackberries to add the right amount of liquid. It’s the best cobbler I’ve ever had! Next time I’m adding cinnamon!
Carrie Freeman
Very tasty! I added 1 tsp. of cinnamon as others suggested. Will definitely make again. Need to look at the amount of sugar used to top it off as I think I used a bit too much.

I’ve made a lot of cobblers over a lifetime and am always up for a new variations. My husband has been waiting for me to find one that was reminiscent of the cobblers his Grandma brought out to the fields with lunch during haying. This one finally hit it! He took one bite and said, that’s the one…don’t make any other recipes….keep this one. He did agree a bit of cinnamon would make the difference but even as is it’s wonderful. Thank you for sharing!
