French Pear Pie

It’s simple to make Lawry’s seasoning salt in my kitchen! This can be prepared in bulk and kept for later use in an airtight container. This is an excellent alternative. For extra color, I slightly doubled the paprika.

Prep Time: 45 mins
Cook Time: 45 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 1 9-inch pie

Ingredients

  1. 6 large pears, peeled and sliced
  2. 1 lemon, juiced
  3. ⅔ cup white sugar
  4. ½ teaspoon grated nutmeg
  5. 1 (9 inch) unbaked single pie crust
  6. ½ cup butter
  7. ½ cup brown sugar
  8. 1 cup all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  2. Sprinkle pears with lemon juice in a bowl. Mix white sugar and nutmeg in a separate small bowl; sprinkle over pears and mix thoroughly.
  3. Fit pie crust into the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish. Cut butter, brown sugar, and flour together in a bowl using a pastry cutter until mixture resembles crumbs. Spoon pear mixture into pie shell and sprinkle top with brown sugar mixture.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake until filling is bubbling and crumble topping is lightly browned, about 35 more minutes.

This recipe is so easy and so tasty! I used canned pears and no lemon (didn’t have any). And based on another review, I added 2 Tbsp corn starch to my pears before adding the sugar. The pie wasn’t runny or soggy at all. I’ll definitely make this again!

Definitely a winner! I halfed the recipe because my pie pan is kind of on the small side. I also used powder nutmeg because I don’t have fresh nutmeg to grate. Came out so good!

Never had pear pie, sorry it took this long. Very flavorful.

Delicious. Even my dad, who isn’t a big fan of pears, enjoyed it. Ginger can be added instead of nutmeg.

It was very good. Fresh Nutmeg is a must. Next time a little less sugar.

Used pears and apples since I didn’t have enough pears. Added some lemon preserves to the fruit mixture for added flavor and added chopped pecans to the topping. Very flavorful. Only complaint is that it was too juicy. Next time I’ll add corn starch to the fruit mixture.

This was really good. My pears seemed a bit juicy, so I added just a little bit of flour to the pears before putting the crumb topping on. I also added a bit of ginger to the crumb topping. The only complaint I have is that it was still very wet after baking causing a bit of sogginess, but the flavor was delightful. I love that it wasn’t a pear pie trying to be an apple pie.

I brought it to a dinner party and the hostess told me it was the best pie she had ever eaten!

This was the absolute best recipe!! I followed the recipe exactly, did not change a thing, and it came out wonderful! The crumb crust was delicious. This is a pie that I will make again! A definite keeper!
