Mixed all ingredients, minus the celery, and put right into crock pot. Did not brown meat beforehand. Cooked on low for 8 hours. Added Swiss before serving. Delicious!!! Hubby and I loved it! Next time I will try adding mushrooms and more cheese.

Trust the recipe people! This is really good! And oh so easy!! My only change was to brown the hamburger but it was because I wanted to drain off the grease before mixing and cooking in my 3Qt baking dish! Cook time was perfect and I agree with SpeechTeacher! Moist! Flavorful and did I mention it was easy?! Thanks Hallie for a great, weeknight meal! Will make again!!

I added a half can of half & half based on another review. After an hour, the rice was still quite tough. I upped the oven to 370; after 15 minutes, rice a little less tough but still chewier than I like. I added about a cup of water, stirred and baked another 15 minutes. At that point, the rice was cooked. I think you add at least a cup of liquid to this recipe and maybe 15 more minutes or 25 more degrees to the oven. The flavors are good and it’s very easy prep.

After preparing the recipe as directed (although I browned the beef before putting it in the oven), I took the liberty of topping the casserole with provolone cheese slices and mushroom slices, then broiling it so the cheese was similar to topping regular French Onion Soup.

it was awesome and will definitely make again

– I used dry onion soup mix (with 11 ounces of hot water) instead of canned French Onion Soup – I added 3 chopped portobello mushrooms

An absolutely wonderful dish and O so easy to make!! Did brown beef and seasoned it a little before mixing it together but the whole family gave it two thumbs up!

I made this according to instructions, I did pre brown the ground beef and drained the liquid (about 1/3 cup) and then introduced a similar amount of water in it’s place as I was concerned it would be overly dry. I did not find the recipe dry but it also was not saucy/wet either. I used regular rice, not instant as some did: no issues cooking the rice. I thought the taste was a little lacking, given the description as French Onion. This recipe is quite easy and quick to make: 5 stars in that regard. Easy recipe contining starch/protein and a little vegetable that is easy to make if you are looking for a quick meal that easily feeds 6 to 8.

I thought this recipe was delicious. I added cheddar cheese and this was the only addition, cause cheese is good on almost everything.

Love this quick and easy dish. If someone in your family that can’t eat rice (diabetes), microwave one package of frozen riced cauliflower instead of the cooked/Minute rice. First I browned the ground round with the onions (partial bag of frozen chopped onions), green peppers (partial bag of frozen chopped green peppers), and chopped celery. Combine with French Onion Soup and Cream of Mushroom Soup and the microwaved riced cauliflower. Bake 1/2 hour at 350 degrees. Delicious! Since so many vegetables are involved, I made a green salad and dinner was complete. Very definitely the healthy version!

I agree with a lot of the reviews about the rice not getting fully cooked. I’d precook the rice next time. I did brown the hamburger as suggested. Rather than being dry, my dish was a little soupy at the 1 hour mark. I siphoned off some of the liquid, added some mozzarella cheese and put it under the broiler for 5 minutes. With the addition of some pepper after the first bite I found the overall flavor quite good. The celery stayed a little crisp and I thought that added to the texture.

We thought that it was pretty tasty. We cooked the meat ahead and added 1/2 can of water. Next time we will use a full can of water and cook the rice ahead, too.

First off, a disclaimer that I’m not a big casserole fan but the hubby is. He loves French onion soup, so I thought I’d give this one a try. I did not have a can of French onion soup, so I substituted (as others suggested) Lipton onion soup mix and a can of beef broth. Also, I precooked the rice in my microwave and sauteed the ground beef and vegetables first. Before removing it from the oven, I did sprinkle grated Swiss cheese on it. Hubby loved it and was excited for leftovers. I thought it was just o.k., a bit bland and the appearance leaves something to be desired. A comfort food on a cold winter’s night, but not something I would serve to guests.

We really like this dish. I’m allergic to mushrooms, so I used cream of chicken soup instead. I topped it off with canned french fried onions. I also added a pack of Lipton onion soup. Soooo good.

Wasn’t bad, but a little bland and dry. Could use more liquid, salt & pepper and maybe a spice or two.

Like many before me, I found that the rice didn’t cook right and was crunchy. Unappealing to the eye. Tasted ok, nothing exceptional. Won’t fix it again.

Simply tasteless. Way better ways to cook mince meat.

Though we enjoyed this as an unintentional dip and as a filling for green peppers, it hasn’t anything, even remotely, to do with French Onion Soup. Not even a the tiniest of flavor similarly. We realized that when going over the ingredients. So, terrible name; decent product.

Made this as stated. Came out great. Next time, I’ll add more veges.

My best description is: It’s not untasty
