Flayed Man Cheese Ball

  4.9 – 97 reviews  • Cold Cheese Dip Recipes

This cheese ball has been artfully posed to resemble a human face with skin. So disgusting, yet SOOOOOOOOOOO wonderful! Serve with a knife while you place crackers, pretzels, or any other food around the face!

Prep Time: 1 hr
Additional Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Servings: 24
Yield: 24 servings

Ingredients

  1. 2 (3 ounce) packages prosciutto
  2. 2 pimento-stuffed green olives
  3. 24 ounces cream cheese, softened
  4. 6 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
  5. 6 ounces shredded Havarti cheese
  6. ½ cup pitted green olives, chopped
  7. ¼ cup roasted red peppers, drained and chopped

Instructions

  1. Lightly coat plastic face mask with cooking spray (see Cook’s Notes). Line the face mask with plastic wrap, taking care to press it down fully into the nose and eyes.
  2. Reserve two or three slices of prosciutto and set aside. Tear the remaining slices of prosciutto into strips and lay them into the mask to form the “muscle tissue.” Start around the eyes, leaving eyes blank, and then create the cheeks, chin, and forehead.
  3. Take the two whole green olives and position them in the eye holes, pimento side-down. Set the mask aside.
  4. Combine the softened cream cheese, Cheddar, and Havarti cheeses in a mixing bowl. Add the chopped green olives and roasted red peppers. Use an electric mixer or clean hands to mix until thoroughly combined.
  5. Take a heaping spoonful of the cheese mixture and arrange it to form an eye around one olive, and then the other. Gently lay handfuls of the cheese mixture all around the mask, taking care not to move the slices of prosciutto. Press the cheese down as you work to fill in all of the crevices. When the mask is full, gently press in the cheese mixture all around the mask. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Invert the mask onto a serving platter and gently remove the mask and the plastic wrap. You should be left with a gorgeous (and freaky) face. If there is cheese showing around the bottom edges, use the reserved prosciutto slices to cover it before serving.
  7. Plastic face masks are available at craft stores like Michael’s® or Jo-Anns®. If you have your own cheese ball recipe, you can certainly use it instead.

first time making something like this! it was fun and fairly easy. i did make changes to reduce serving size (small party) and added some garlic, onion powder and paprika, i also used a small mask and everyone loved the taste but no one wanted to cut into it! will try this again!

What an awesome idea!!! My coworkers loved it for our Halloween bash!

Took my time with this and had fun making it. Big hit at potluck.

I made this for a party we had last weekend. (Oct 15th) This was a big hit. Everything about it was perfect. I did change the eyes to Wilton’s royal icing eyes. I think it’s important to spray the mask with pam before adding the Saran Wrap like the recipe states. It helps hold the plastic wrap in place for the details etc before packing with the cheese mixture. It was so quick and easy to make. Turned out perfect.

Hard finding the mask. Prosciutto was hard to find, too. Tasted great, big hit at the Halloween party!

Absolutely Faboulous! A great recipe for many occasions It was great — even though I overlooked including the lips and mouth. I guess this was the “in-law” version . . . what a way to keep them quiet

Great recipe. I heated up some red pepper jelly and glazed 2 pearl onion for the eyes. Then brushed the jelly over the prosciutto and poured the rest around the service platter. Super creepy. I had a prop tongue I stuck in the mouth.

So I had an absolutely fabulous time making this! Unfortunately my coworkers were afraid to try it I was not at the potluck so they couldn’t ask questions. I still thought it looked awesome and thanks so much for sharing

Terrible good! Very gross looking and easily draws attention to it. I roasted my own red bell pepper, omitted the chopped green olives, mixed in some minced garlic, and a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce all in my blender. Someone has already requested it for another event.

Excellent recipe! The only change I made was pepper-jack instead of havarti. Always a huge hit!

This dish was so easy to make and came out incredibly creepy. When I brought it to our neighborhood Halloween party, the hostess moved her centerpiece and placed my dish in the center. I made it just as described, it took me 10 minutes flat to make it and it was the first dish that was gone at the party, Amazing recipe and one I’m going to make each year from now on! Thanks so much for the recipe. Wish I had taken a picture.

Loved this, hard to find already shredded havarti cheese however. I won the contest at work for most creepiest dish!

Pretty straight forward and easy. Did not bother with the spray before the plastic wrap.

Won the Spookiest Snack prize with this Flayed Man appetizer! I used my favorite cheese ball recipe for the filling but followed the instructions to build the face. Worked perfectly!

This recipe was easy to make and it looked just like the photo. But the taste wasn’t great. The prosciutto was hard to cut and bite through. Also, prosciutto dried out fast.

This was awesome! I won the “Most Innovative Food” in our Halloween food contest!

I made this for my mah Jongg group for Halloween and they loved it! It came out perfect. I did change the ingredients for the cheese ball b/c it sounded very bland. I used minced Kalamata olives, lots of minced scallions, minced fresh red pepper, roasted garlic, lots of freshly ground black pepper and a few dashes of Tabasco. It was delicious!
Alexis Taylor
This cheese was so real looking it was awesome!! I would add more red pepper for flavoring.
