Five-Ingredient Monkey Bread

I gave my daughter, who is the mother of six kids, the recipe for monkey bread. They enjoy making it themselves because it is so easy, which they also enjoy doing. Warm biscuits can be covered with a thin frosting made of powdered sugar, if desired.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 35 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 12

Ingredients

  1. 3 (10 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough
  2. ¾ cup white sugar
  3. 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  4. ½ cup margarine
  5. ¾ cup white sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a tube pan. Mix together 3/4 cup sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Quarter biscuits with kitchen shears. Dip shears in water after each cut to keep biscuits from getting too sticky. Dip biscuits pieces into sugar mixture and place in prepared pan. Repeat until all biscuit pieces are used.
  3. Melt margarine and mix in 3/4 cup sugar; pour mixture over biscuits in pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes.

A must try.

Our kids (6 and 7) had most fun helping with this easy preparation. Tasted twice as good 😉

it was delicious

I had expected a scratch recipe. Pre-made major ingredients (like the biscuits) do not exist in all areas. Rather disappointed.

This is a Christmas morning tradition at my house. And even though my kids are now 16 and 20, I almost had a mutiny on my hands when I suggested making pancakes or French toast this year! The only change I make to the recipe is to fill the pan with half the biscuits and then half the sugar/butter mix, then repeat the layers. It makes the gooey spread more evenly throughout.

Loved it and it came out so well. Easy to prep, easy to make.

I used to make this with my best friend and her mom, but I never looked for the recipe until now. I put it on a baking sheet and made it a pull-apart bread, and spread the extra cinammon and sugar across the top before putting the butter and sugar. Turned out fantastic!!

This recipe was delicious. Simple to make. I didn’t make any changes. I used to make this years ago for my kids. They loved it. Now I’m making it for my grandchildren. They enjoy helping me coat the pieces.

Not a fan. I made it Easter morning for breakfast and my hubby and I didn’t care for it and the kids wouldn’t even try it!

I love Monkey Bread so much.

This was delicious and my two year old loved helping out! And of course loved eating it!

Very good but too sweet even as a dessert. Next time I will add the butter to the remaining cinnamon/sugar mix and completely eliminate the rest of the sugar. I did, however, use the icing that came with the cinnamon biscuits which probably added quite a bit to the sweetness.

Pillsbury has come out with ‘sweet biscuits.’ I changed up the recipe with using one can of chocolate chip and one can of blueberry. I also used one can of cinnamon roll. I set the icings aside that each came with. I used a butter spray to grease my Bundt pan.

I found it a little dry. It could be using biscuit dough makes it dryer rather than bread dough.

I was really disappointed with this. The sugar/butter did not caramelize. Several of the bread prices were really dry.

Made according to recipe, and was absolutely delicious. Served at an event & the ladies were saying it was the best monkey bread they’ve ever had…& it was my first time to make it. Win!!

Recipe as written is great, but makes a LOT. If you, like us, are a smaller family, it easily cuts into thirds. I have even used a 5 ct tube of biscuits and adjusted all other ingredients for just hubs and I. Adjust your cooking time and your golden – no pun intended!

Very easy & delicious!

Used real biscuit dough and it was ok , needs tweaking. More sauce for sure and the dough needs more flavor (the biscuit recipe used is good).

Simple and to the point! Love this!!!!

I’ve found this recipe works great if you reduce the cinnamon to 2 teaspoons. I also skip the additional 3/4 cup of sugar. Instead, after dipping the dough in the cinnamon and sugar mixture, I mix whatever is left of the cinnamon sugar with the stick of melted butter.
