Ingredients

  1. 1 cup red wine
  2. 3 cups fresh figs, top stems removed, roughly chopped
  3. 1 cup orange juice
  4. 2 tablespoons honey
  5. Pinch of cayenne
  6. 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  7. 1 piece star anise
  8. Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring the red wine to a simmer and cook until reduced by half, about 10 minutes. Add the figs, orange juice, honey, cayenne, rosemary and star anise and bring back to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until the figs soften and the mixture thickens, about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching on the bottom. Cool to room temperature before removing the anise and rosemary.

This recipe is amazing for our abundance of figs. Can anyone tell me how long it will keep stored in a glass container in the refrigerator?

Bought figs to wrap in prosciutto but they had very little flavor. Found this recipe and have always loved Geoffrey Zakarian so gave it a try. Absolutely wonderful! Served with a pork tenderloin and the plain eater at home loved it even though it is anything but plain. Will definitely make again.

Really tasty. Added a splash of amaretto just for the fun of it but it was good without it too.

I have a fig tree in my yard and now I know to make this delicious chutney with my over abundance of figs.  I added lime juice and blueberries instead of OJ because I didn’t have any. Yum! Just add a rotisserie chicken and salad and we had a scrumptious dinner.

This stuff is so good!  Great on a charcuterie board with ricotta or goat cheese and crostini.

Well, who knew there is a fresh fig shortage in Milwaukee WI.? Went to 3 stores, no fresh figs. Called 4 more. No Dice! Went with pears. Turned out Fab! Sweet, spicy, made the house smell awesome. Can not wait to actually get some figs. Turned leftovers into a puree. spread on roasted garlic crostini. Awesome!
