Depending on your preference, it can be used as a side salad or a party dip for pretzels. For parties, I typically double this dish. One batch ought to suffice if you want to use it as a pretzel dip. I advise rolling a pin over the pretzels to crush them. I advise waiting to stir the pretzel mixture into the pineapple mixture until it is time to serve.

I made this because it seemed so unique. It is great for something different, that’s for sure. It has that sweet/salty addiction to it. Makes a pretzel snack a lot more fun. We made it a third time and added cooked/crumbled bacon at the end. While not necessary, what doesn’t get better with bacon added???
I have been making this salad for over 40 years. A friend’s mother brought it to a church dinner and I was hooked. I don’t make it often because my son and I will eat it until we’re sick. The sweet, creamy pineapple goodness is perfected when the salty, crunchy pretzel toffee is added. I always double the amount of the pretzel mixture, and store it in an airtight container. I allow each person to add the mixture to their serving based on their preference. The pretzels will become soggy otherwise. Fair warning: this dish is addicting!
this is a very rich dish. I used as a dip once I took a bite. it was great on Graham crackers as well as celery.
This is such a wonderful salad. I have made it for years and a favorite of many I share it with. I agree, you can’t add the pretzels until ready to serve. I typically use pineapple tidbits.
This is excellent and a favorite at family gatherings. You must wait until before serving, to mix the crunchy pretzels in with the rest of it, so they don’t get soggy. Some will use the pretzels, as a crust, and put the rest on top, with some of the pretzels crumbled on top as a garnish. EXCELLENT!
Very tasty and easy! I first had this at a funeral and I hunted the church lady down for the recipe! It reminds me of the candy bar dessert salads minus the nuts…which is an amazing find when you have a peanut allergy in the family! I like the pretzels mixed in, but alas, they do get soggy if you are toting leftovers. I thought the prrtzel crunch mixed in have it a very caramel like flavor. Try this you won’t regret it!
This stuff is decident! My favorite dessert by far!
Awesome, one of my favorite things to eat.
I actually got this recipe from an aunt. It is a tasty addition to a potluck. I do not stir in the pretzels to serve it because if you have leftovers, you will have soggy pretzels. It is much better to sprinkle some on top as it is served.
