I developed this non-deep-fried variation of the traditional ginger beef while searching for a healthier alternative. The beef will absorb more ginger flavor the longer it is marinated.

Ingredients
- 1 pound round steak, thinly sliced
- 1 (1 inch) piece fresh ginger root, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 12 mushrooms, sliced
- ¼ cup sweet and sour sauce
- 4 cups cooked rice
Instructions
- Place steak, ginger, and soy sauce in a bowl; turn to coat steak. Cover tightly; marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight.
- Heat a wok over high heat; pour in beef mixture. Cover wok; cook until beef is browned, about 5 minutes. Remove beef from wok.
- Heat butter in wok over high heat; stir in bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, and sweet and sour sauce. Cover and cook until vegetables begin to soften, about 3 minutes. Stir cooked beef into vegetable mixture; cook until heated through, about 2 minutes. Serve over cooked rice.
- Any cut of beef suitable for marinating can be used in this recipe, such as sirloin tip, inside round, eye of round, outside round, flank, or full round.

I love ginger beef but do not like recipes that have high sodium. This one does not. It was delicious and will definitely make it again!
amazing!
Very tasty. I followed the recipe but next time I will chop the ginger instead if slicing.
Delicious. Wasn’t too thrilled when I’d bite not a piece of that thin sliced ginger. But this recipe is great. I’d add extra steak and serve it just over veggies next time. Yum!
Very good as is. Next time I’ll try adding a variety of veggies.
Pretty good. I used 1.5x the meat, 2 peppers, 1.5 large onions probably could have used 1 large one, a full pack of sliced fresh mushrooms… made homemade sweet and sour sauce from another Allrecipes recipe… and it was really very tasty!!
Serve with some red chilly flacks
Super simple and full of flavor. My wok does not have a cover so I just stir-fried it continually throughout the entire cooking time. I was afraid the sweet and sour sauce would make it too sweet but it was perfect.
Smells fantastic. Added a few bits of citrus to add extra flavour. Perfect and easy to make…. love it
