Easy Fried Spinach

  4.2 – 138 reviews  • Greens

I discovered this meal of fried spinach while traveling in China and tried to recreate it. Of all of my own recipes, it’s a family favorite. It is quick, easy, and only needs a few ingredients.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Total Time: 15 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. ¼ cup unsalted butter
  2. ¼ cup canola oil
  3. 2 (10 ounce) bags fresh spinach leaves
  4. 8 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Melt butter with oil in a large skillet over medium heat until mixture stops bubbling. (This allows water in the butter to evaporate.) Add garlic; cook and stir until it begins to brown, about 2 minutes. Add spinach; cook and stir until leaves are dark and about 1/4 of their original size, about 5 minutes.

Way too much oil. But other than that, it’s delicious!

It turned out yummy! Easy and tasty!

This is how I make my fried spinach now. Thanks for the recipe! This is great!

I normally cook my spinach in olive oil with garlic. Adding the butter was a welcome addition.

Really easy and very good flavor. We also like it with a splash of balsamic vinegar as in a review below.

Based on other reviews, I totally skipped the oil and used the butter only. I sauteed onions along with the garlic and I seasoned it with red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. I do tend to think that the oil would make it way too greasy.

I make this often. I use olive oil, but only 3 tbsp. It’s too greasy otherwise. And just needs salt. It’s fast and easy. Even the kids eat it.

Really like fried spinach , instead of adding sliced garlic when cooking , I used 2 tablespoons of ” Chili Garlic Sauce” tossed in after cooking .nice flavor and some heat.

Yummy! Second time I made it I squeezed fresh lemon juice along with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and super yummy! I don’t cook it too wilty.

Very good. I also add some red pepper flakes and top it off with feta cheese. Yum, yum. Even kiddos staying over to visit my daughter loved this and what kids like spinach. 🙂 This is a keeper.

I reduced the amount of oil (used sunflower oil), added chopped tomatoes and a bit of habanero. Served with plain white rice, easily the best meal i have ever cooked.

it was horrible!

Followed the recipe. Sorry, It was oily and bland. Needs something else. Probably will try it again because we love spinach but will try to add some flavor. Perhaps instead of oil. Use a little bacon grease.

Tastes good if you add a little Parmesan cheese when you serve it.

I followed the recipe just as it was written and my husband loved it! So easy too!

I found that this needed something more as many others did so I added half of one of those newfangled lemons which are a combination of a lemon and a mandarin orange. I also added a couple of turns of the sea salt grinder.

Very good. Works well as recepie calls it… didn’t do this but after having had it…might sprinkle a little bit of parm. cheese on top when we plate it.

Fantastic! I didn’t change a thing. I cooked it a little bit longer just to burn off some of the water. I served it over rice and it was wonderful. This will be a repeat.

My family didn’t like the butter very much. When I made this again I used only 2 tbsp of olive oil instead and no butter. My kids no longer like ‘plain ole’ spinach and actually request it with this way now.

I found that all the measurements for this are off resulting in something that is greasy and too garlicy (is that right, garlicy?) so if I try again, the oil, butter and garlic would be drasticly reduced.
