Easy French Onion Dip

  4.5 – 2 reviews

Since my husband is allergic to MSG, which is a common ingredient in most onion soup mixes, I needed a dip, so I made one with things I already had. If preferred, garnish with chives or finely chopped green onion tops.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Additional Time: 1 hr
Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons water
  2. 2 tablespoons minced dried onion
  3. 1 cube beef bouillon
  4. 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
  5. 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  6. ¼ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  7. salt and ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine water, dried onion, and bouillon in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds.
  2. Add sour cream, parsley, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper and mix until well combined. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before serving.

Phenomenal Dee! And better than Lipton any day! While I added 1/4 TBLS more of dried onions and 1/4 tsp more of dried parsley, it was only because I was emptying the bottom of each jars. I hate returning an almost-empty jar to my spice rack!! I also added 1/4 tsp (maybe a little less) of garlic powder. This turned out amazing!! At times during the pandemic, you couldn’t find this dried onion soup. Yep! No longer need to! I have this!! Thank you for this amazing chip dip alternative!!

11.16.21 Honestly can’t say that I like this quite as well as using the classic Lipton® onion soup mix, but this is pretty darn good, SURPRISINGLY good! Do give it some time chilling in the fridge, as the flavor will intensify. Thanks for sharing your tasty and quick-and-easy recipe, it’s a keeper.
