Making this spinach salad is incredibly simple. Although the dressing has some uncommon components, it is really tasty. When I bring this salad to potlucks, I never have leftovers.
Prep Time: | 20 mins |
Cook Time: | 10 mins |
Total Time: | 30 mins |
Servings: | 8 |
Yield: | 1 tossed salad |
Ingredients
- 4 slices bacon, or more to taste
- 1 (16 ounce) bag fresh spinach, stems removed
- 2 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
- 1 small red onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup white sugar
- ⅓ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- ¼ cup vinegar
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Place the bacon into a skillet over medium heat, and cook until browned and crisp, turning often, about 10 minutes. Transfer the bacon to paper towels to absorb excess grease. Crumble the bacon when cool.
- Place the spinach into a large salad bowl, and sprinkle with the bacon, hard-cooked eggs, and onion. Gently toss the salad.
- In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, ketchup, vegetable oil, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce until the sugar has dissolved. Pour the dressing over the salad, and toss thoroughly to combine all ingredients.

No, I haven’t made it yet. However, I love spinach and it would be great for lunch/dinner. I like that it has ingredients that I would already have on hand to prepare it.
I added a can of drained water chestnuts for some crunch. Delicious!
Very good dressing, but I prefer bacon flavor in these types of salads. I would suggest others try it to decide for themselves since it is pretty tasty, though.
Delicious. Made this for several parties and nothing is ever left. I do make the dressing the night before. 5 plus stars. Thank you for sharing
I was introduced to this Spinach Salad recipe over 30 years ago at an employee pot luck. Except for the addition of a 4 oz. can of sliced water chestnuts and slightly different measurements, the ingredient list is the same. It is a delicious salad — definitely an “oldie, but a goodie”.
I’ve made this dressing for years; however, I use light brown sugar vs white, I add some finely chopped bacon (the rest is used as a garnish), mung bean sprouts, and a couple of tablespoons of the bacon grease. Delicious! This time I’m adding wild caught shrimp cooked in the bacon grease and then chilled.
The star of this recipe is the dressing, although it was a bit on the sweet side for our tastes. But that’s easy enough to modify next time, and there will be a next time. Thanks for sharing, a nice lunch today with some crackers.
This salad is so simple, and yet amazingly delicious! Didn’t change a thing – and the dressing is to die for!! Boyfriend loves it too, just as it’s written!
Great salad with steak! I added tomatoes, surprise! YUMMY!
Easy and awesome says it all! My son’s family loved it. Yes, kids and adults. My son commented “Wow! You’re really getting fancy”. The dressing was easy to make and really set apart from other spinach salad recipes. I did slice a few mushrooms and served on the side in case anyone wanted to add them. I will definitely make this again.
AWESOME!!
Turned out delicious. I did cut the sugar in 1/2 as I do t like dressing so sweet and also added some Dijon mustard in and it was quite delicious.
Dressing is delish! Easy salad, quick and very good.
This was a dish that my guests raved about. was asked for the recipe by everyone.
Very easy to make. Tasted great, added croutons.
Yummy! Haven’t had this in years but suddenly remembered it when faced with a lot of salad to use up. I used half olive oil and half veggie oil and it still tasted amazing! Next time, I’ll sub a little water for some of the oil and try some stevia for some of the sugar. I plan on making this again soon!
I didn’t add the onion because I didn’t have one, and I forgot the Worcestershire sauce. It was a hit at our house. All the children loved it, as did my husband and me.
This is a great salad; although I would suggest cutting back on the sugar. Especially for pre-diabetic and diabetics. Still tastes great.
Thank you for this delicious recipe! I brought this salad to a dinner party. I went back for seconds, but it was gone! 3 people asked me for the recipe. The only substitution I made, was olive oil. This will be a weekly salad at our house.
Very tasty recipe, especially since the dressing ingredients are so simple and usually on hand. The bacon with the tangy dressing is perfect.
I’ve taken this to potlucks and have gotten rave reviews as well as requests to bring it the next time. It is easy to prepare the night before although I don’t put the dressing in until right before serving. I also take a portion with no bacon for my friends who don’t eat pork. This is definitely my go-to spinach salad recipe.
