Here is a simple recipe for chicken Marsala, a lighter variation of one of my favorite chicken recipes. I’ll be keeping this one for my family!
Prep Time: | 10 mins |
Cook Time: | 15 mins |
Total Time: | 25 mins |
Servings: | 4 |
Ingredients
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon garlic salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
- ½ cup Marsala wine
Instructions
- Whisk flour, garlic salt, pepper, and oregano together in a bowl. Dredge chicken in flour mixture until lightly coated.
- Heat oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chicken and cook until lightly browned, about 2 minutes. Flip chicken and add mushrooms. Cook, stirring mushrooms occasionally, until chicken is browned on the other side, about 2 more minutes.
- Pour Marsala wine over chicken. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer until chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 10 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).

This was dry and did not have the savory flavor that MARSALA is known for. There is no sauce with this recipe which ruins the whole dish. I will not use again (Ihave already found a new recipe that I hope will result in a 5 star dinner)!
This was very tasty. I will be making it again. Super easy.
So easy to make and delicious. Definitely will make again.
Delicious and so easy. This is going to become a regular for me.
I made the recipe almost exactly, but used Italian seasoning instead of oregano, and added some minced garlic and a bit of Alfredo sauce. Perfection!
I make this for Christmas Eve dinner. So easy, can easily upsize for bigger groups or for warm-ups the next day. Freezes nicely too! Family Fave!!
The recipe as written is great. I heavily salt and oregano the chicken directly rather than with the flour. Kids loved it. Whatever you do, don’t use the cream of mushroom soup version. It’s really rather disgusting and not what chicken marsala is.
My family and I loved this recipe! I did however add more mushrooms and a can of cream of mushroom soup like several other commenters. The next time I make this I will double the cream of mushroom soup. Thank you for sharing this great recipe!
I doubled the flour mixture and mixed what was leftover from dredging the chicken with 3/4 cup marsala wine, 1 cup of chicken broth, and 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice. Poured it over the chicken and cooked as directed. Served it over pasta. Yum!
fantastic
I have made this dish several times now and it is stellar! Turns out great every time.
I added 1 teaspoon minced garlic and increased the marsala wine to 1 cup.
This recipe was wonderful, I did add more Marsala wine and I added garlic. I do not usually change but went by other reviews. I served with roasted green beans and spaghetti
I just left a five star review, but forgot to mention I made it EXACTLY like the recipe. I read SO many comment about adding extreme cream or soup mix…. NO! This recipe is perfect, just the way it is!
Missing something but was great. I used crushed garlic instead. Added a tiny bit of tarragon and should’ve added a pinch of sea salt.
delicous super quick as written very simple will make agian for sure
Grilled chicken w/Italian seasonings, didn’t flour chicken. Also used white wine instead of Marsala to sauté mushrooms, shallots, fresh garlic….w/little corn starch to thicken sauce.
I followed the recipe exactly and the flavor was on the bland side. Also it made very little sauce. I used dry Marsala wine and maybe should have used the sweet version instead. Probably would not use this recipe again.
Excellent Recipe!!! Added Broccoli, Julienned Onions and Stewed Tomatoes (drained); Served over White Rice. Delish!!!!
Loved this! I love chicken marsala, but have never attempted to make it until tonight. This recipe was perfect — all I added was some thin sliced onions and some baby spinach at the last second…doubled the amount or marsala and used that to pour over a side of pasta. Hubby stuffed himself silly, so this is 5 stars!
A little bland. Easy to make but needed a little more spices or salt
