I was looking for a recipe to make with potatoes and ground venison, ran across this one and it sounds good. In the oven right now, I added pepper jack cheese in between layers and shredded cheddar on top. Trying to figure out when and where to add the mushrooms, four cans seems like a lot of mushrooms and the recipe doesn’t even state when or where to add them. I just added them into the meat.

I did add a small amount of SantaFa veggies to the layers. It turned out amazing!!!

I have made this casserole with some changes. I used 1 pound of hamburger and 1 Pound of Ground Turkey. 1 can of Mushroom Soup and 4 pieces of Bacon. Fried the bacon first. Put all the Meat in to the Skillet with the bacon grease for flavor! Seasoned with Season Salt and Onion Powder . Added the mushroom soup. When done got my casserole dish out. Put sliced potatoes on the bottom of dish. Seasoned potatoes lightly with Season Salt and Onion Powder. Put half meat mixture on top. Added half of the Cheese. I used about 2 cups total. Then sprinkled French Fried onions over that. Put the last of the potatoes over meat mixture. Lightly seasoned again. Added lightly sprinkled cheese and French fried onions. Then add the rest of the meat Mixture. Ok if it doesn’t cover all the potatoes. Just smooth in casserole dish so there is meat mixture everywhere. Add more cheese cover heavily. Cook for about an hour at 350 degrees. When almost done lightly sprinkle rest of French fried onions and cook for another 10-15 minutes!! Ummm!! YUMMMY!!

Heavenly- added some onion and garlic to meat, mixed soup with meat not potatoes and added can of french cut green beans as a layer- it was so so so good. This is fantastic.

I liked it but i did make changes, I added french style green beans and real mushrooms. I would add a whole cup of cheese instead of 1/2 cup the next time. My husband said it was very very good. Also i am GF so i used progresso cream of mush soup which is 18 ounces and used milk to come up with the right amt of liquid. thank you its a keeper

I made no changes and was very tasty. I will make again.

Going from other reviews, I decided to slightly alter the recipe. When cooking the meat, I add 1 onion, 3 garlic cloves salt and pepper. For the potatoes I used 1 can of soup, 3/4 cup milk and 2 tablespoons of sour cream. I layered potatoes then meat then cheese. Covered with aluminum foil.

I made some modifications after reading the reviews, it turned out awesome! I was worried it would be bland, so took some of the other recommendations and sauteed onions and fresh mushrooms together and added some onion soup mix. followed everything else as written and it was SOOOO good!

I made this for dinner tonight, and it was a winner. My husband is not a fan of cheese, but this casserole worked for him. Was easy to put together

Absolutely delicious, just as tasty when cold. Didn’t change anything, stuck to recipe.

The fried onions really make the dish. They add a nice flavor and a satisfying crunch. This is a great way to use hamburger meat that isn’t meatloaf or Hamburger Helper. Very tasty.

Came out ok but the potatoes didn’t cook thoroughly

Great recipe, even my picky kids ate it ! Served up with green beans and rolls, it was perfect. Easy to make and not a budget buster. It’s a keeper.

I cooked 2 lbs ground beef. In a separate pot, I cooked potatoes, frozen green beans and frozen carrots together. I cooked the potatoes too long to the consistency of potato soup. I drained the water. Since I cooked the potatoes too long, I had to scoop “potato soup” out of the sink. I added 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup milk and 2 cans cream of celery soup to the potato veggie mixture. I seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic powder and a seasoning blend. I layered potato mixture, meat and cheese in a casserole dish. I cooked at 350 for 30” topping with onion rings the last 5 minutes. It was delicious! Next time I will cook the carrots first, then I’ll add the potatoes, then the green beans. Thanks Theresa for the recipe and to others for adding your ideas.
