Cream Cheese Penguins

  4.7 – 720 reviews  • Cute and Fun

I am aware that there isn’t much to this, but kids adore it.

Prep Time: 30 mins
Additional Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 35 mins
Servings: 18
Yield: 18 penguins

Ingredients

  1. 18 jumbo black olives, pitted
  2. 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  3. 18 small black olives
  4. 1 carrot

Instructions

  1. Cut a slit from top to bottom, lengthwise, into the side of each jumbo olive. Carefully insert about 1 teaspoon of cream cheese into each olive. Slice the carrot into eighteen 1/4 inch thick rounds; cut a small notch out of each carrot slice to form feet. Save the cut out piece and press into center of small olive to form the beak. If necessary cut a small slit into each olive before inserting the beak.
  2. Set a big olive, large hole side down, onto a carrot slice. Then, set a small olive onto the large olive, adjusting so that the beak, cream cheese chest and notch in the carrot slice line up. Secure with a toothpick.

We loved the Cream Cheese Penguins. I made these penguins with my granddaughter. We had fun adding scarves and hats. I wouldn’t change a thing on these penguins.

A real cocktail party hit! They are not difficult to make, but a bit of practice is helpful. My only alteration was to spread room temp Cream Cheese on the bottom of the plate to simulate snow. This also gave me a base for holding up the penguins . Loved it and got many kudos

I think these are so cute and easy to make. I made these several years ago using a jelly roll pan with a thin layer of cream cheese.

Made them last year. They are so cute. Even fthough they are tedious to make, I will be making them again this year.

I made something very similar for Christmas. Used small fresh mozz balls. These were a big hit!

I made these for Christmas appetizer. I allowed cream cheese to soften then placed in sandwich bag and squeezed into sliced olives. Was easier, faster and less messy. I used candy eyes. They looked adorable and stored standing up overnight in Fridge. Some fell over and they were a mess the next day. I would suggest cutting carrots (feet) thicker to help support them.

Thought they would be cute but was a disaster. Would recommend not softening the cream cheese. Got frustrated with the way they weren’t coming together so won’t make them.

We had so much fun making them and eating them.

These were fun to make, and everyone thought they were super cute. my only complaint is that the cream cheese is hard to put into the olives and still look good, maybe a me problem idk.

Made these years ago for a New Year’s Eve party. They are yummy and cute for kids too…were talked about for years after.

Everyone at the gathering loved them! I had a hard time making scarves, (I used Peppadews). In the future I will make a few to accent a veggie tray

I made these last Autumn. I have never really done any of this cutesy stuff in a while because the kids are grown, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop! But apparently, I did have to stop sending pictures of the army of penguins I was creating to my daughter….something about she was in class…maybe a test….she’s going to block me….meh. They were super cute, and the taste was okay, but the taste was the secondary factor. I used chive and onion cream cheese and just had to do the roasted red pepper scarfs from a suggestion! Thank you! I’ll have to prepare another army for this Holiday!

Eye candy, texture, taste and time required to make not worth my effort. Won’t make them again.

Cute as they can be but. Or as easy as it looks!

Great party appetizer. Just be forewarned, it’s more effort than in might appear. My suggestions: – Be sure to get Jumbo olives. Extra large are not all that big. – Use flavored cream cheese or add some ranch dressing powder or other seasoning. Plain cream cheese is too plain. – Making scarves is great, but it’s a lot of work and the result can be good or bad. Better to just pipe some extra cream cheese which then flattens a bit when you affix the head, to create a sort of white scarf. – Cut a little extra off the open end of each olive to make more room for piping the cheese in. – Get big fat carrots. Carve the beaks out of the carrots before slicing them. It may end up being easier to use a different carrot for the beaks. – Use neufchatel cheese. It pipes much easier. – If this is going to be for an event that you want to impress folks, I highly suggest you make a practice run a week ahead of time.
