Cranberry Sauce Extraordinaire

Since it’s so amazing, I decided to share this even though it’s been a “trade secret” for years. Everyone like it, and for a festive appetizer, a block of cream cheese can be poured over it and served with crackers.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 35 mins
Total Time: 45 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup water
  2. 1 cup white sugar
  3. 1 (12 ounce) package fresh cranberries
  4. 1 orange, peeled and pureed
  5. 1 apple – peeled, cored and diced
  6. 1 pear – peeled, cored and diced
  7. 1 cup chopped dried mixed fruit
  8. 1 cup chopped pecans
  9. ½ teaspoon salt
  10. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  11. ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, boil water and sugar until the sugar dissolves. Reduce the heat to simmer, and stir in cranberries, pureed orange, apple, pear, dried fruit, pecans, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst. Remove from heat, and let cool to room temperature.
  2. Please note the differences in ingredient amounts and yield, as well as the omission of nuts when using the magazine version of this recipe.

This cranberry sauce was a hit! I will definitely make this for many of our holiday get togethers.

I just made this and it is fantastic. I did decrease the sugar to 3/4 cup and used 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup apple cider for the liquid. I used dried cherries and apricots as my dried fruits, and added a cinnamon stick to the mixture as it was cooking. I will definitely be making this for Thanksgiving. A nice change from classic cranberry sauce.

My search for the ultimate cranberry sauce ended when I tried this one a few years back–it’s food fit for the gods. For the dried fruit I use mango, pineapple, and apricots. I thought the cinnamon taste was a bit strong so I cut that and the nutmeg, as well as the pecans in half. As delicious as it is, it’s utterly amazing mixed into some good Greek yogurt. Can’t recommend this recipe highly enough!

I found this recipe years ago and it’s becomes one of our family favorites. My kids say it’s not Thanksgiving or Christmas without it! It’s perfectly wonderful as written (except for the nuts), but I like to add a bit of fresh lemon juice and I also zest both the lemon and the orange. We love dried cherry craisins for the dried fruit.

This is an easy recipe to follow. I doubled the recipe because I wanted to give some away as gifts. Easy to make and place in jars with a bath canner for 15’. I tried some while warm and it was great. Not to sweet and nit to tart. The only issue I have was once it cooled the orange flavor was obsolete and the cinnamon flavor was powerful. I even decreased my cinnamon and added an extra orange with orange extract so I’m not sure what happened. I usually make another recipe but this one sounded so good. It is better as far as sweetness. It was a great addition to my sliced turkey sandwich that I had for lunch and it’s great on oatmeal! We’ve also used it as jam on our toast and pancakes! Thank you for posting. Easy peasy and great gift idea during the holidays.

Turned out fabulous ! Will make it a traditional recipe every year!

Love this recipe! Skip the nuts.

This was good, but it is more of a salad instead of a sauce. I ended up adding a container of cool whip and marshmallows. I made “Holiday Cranberry Sauce” at the same time to compare the two recipes. I prefer the Holiday Cranberry Sauce.

Amazing cranberry sauce. Only change I made was to reduce the sugar by a little less than a quarter cup. Will definitely make again and again!! Thanks!!

If you’re looking for preserves/jam, this is five star. However, I like a tart cranberry sauce. I can see how this will go over well with those who usually don’t like cranberry sauce.

It’s not Thanksgiving without these cranberries. Don’t change a thing!

Even my family who only liked jellied cranberry sauce in a can loved this full berry recipe. I plan to make it a new Thanksgiving tradition.

I made this by the recipe but the cinnamon flavor was over powering. No compliments from the guests for this recipe.

Everyone loved this!

I have made this every Thanksgiving for the last few years and I love it more each year. It’s perfectly balanced with tart and sweet, crunchy and fruity. It’s great as a side with stuffing and turkey – but it’s also wonderful on top of vanilla ice cream.

This recipe was amazing! I didn’t use pears, it was still delicious.

I Loved cranberry sauce. I wouldn’t change a thing. And will definitely make again

Absolutely fabulous…like a dessert. Wonderful flavors and textures…It was a huge hit and will definitely be my “go to” recipe for cranberry sauce!

By far the BEST cranberry sauce I have ever made! I ran out of cinnamon and used allspice in it’s place and it was amazing! Have someone who hates cranberry sauce? Have them try this one. I turned non-believers into believers at work with this one.
