Yum! I did it a little differently. Grabbed two slices of bread and slathered a layer of cream cheese on each side. Then heated cranberries with honey on the stove to create a sauce, which I poured over the cream cheese. Then put the slices together to make a sandwich, and dipped them in the eggwash and fried as per usual French toast. Topped with leftover cranberry sauce and honey.
The absolute best. I use strawberries and more marscapone cheese and DELICIOUS everytime!!!!
This tastes amazing!! I cooked the cranberries in OJ (berries half submerged until they all burst and reduced; let it cool completely. I only used 1/4 cup of sugar in the cranberries; bread cut into one inch slices. Once they were cooked, I cut them in half to reveal the deliciousness inside. Then topped them with powered sugar and served over warm maple syrup. Thanks Robert Irvine, they were a show stopper!
YUM YUM YUM! This has become a Christmas tradition. My only suggestion is to blanch the cranberries first – or cook the toast on low for longer on each side – to give the cranberries time to soften. Otherwise, this recipe is wonderful.
**As an alternative, you can use two pieces of Texas Toast if you don’t have Challah bread.
i loved it!
perfect
This was a definite winner, and now a Christmas morning tradition! I tried it both ways and liked the cranberries blanched better. Just throw them in a pot of boiling water for a few minutes then douse them in ice water. It makes them a little less crunchy. We also made a syrup from extra cranberries which is what really made this dish 5 stars.
Thinking of adding in the mix:
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 pinches cinnamon
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 pinches cinnamon
Could use a bit less sugar. Cut challah bread lengthwise(1/4 in slices?) and stuff mixture between 2 pieces. Griddle on lower heat and toast longer
Entire family raved when I made this for the first time last Christmas. Was a bit on the sweet side so will reduce the sugar a bit this year. Still, a great way to impress family and guests.
Quick and easy recipe, and very delicious too! It’s good also when I used blueberries and strawberries. Robert, you rock!
My new favorite breakfast! I love the sweetness of the cream cheese and the tarness of the cranberries. Last year we could not find cranberries after the holidays, so we tired the recipe with other berries like strawberries and blueberries, but I think the cranberries have just the right flavor. This year we are stocking up on the cranberries and freezing them so we can have this later in the year, too!
