At picnics and potlucks, people love this unexpected combination of sweet, salty, and acidic flavors!

Total Time: 2 hrs 35 mins

Ingredients

  1. 1 (8 pound) baked ham
  2. 1 cup brown sugar
  3. 2 (12 fluid ounce) cans or bottles cola-flavored carbonated beverage

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with aluminum foil, and place ham into the pan.
  2. Place brown sugar in a bowl; whisk in just enough cola to dissolve sugar and form a thick glaze. Pour glaze over ham, then add remaining cola to the bottom of the baking pan.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven, occasionally basting with glaze, for 2 hours. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).
  4. Transfer ham to a serving platter and tent with foil for up to 30 minutes before serving.

Followed recipe exact and the results were so good I’m seriously wondering if I will ever try another way?? This was wonderful! The cooking instructions were a little unclear; covered? Uncovered? I ended up cooking the first hour & twenty covered, the last 40-45 uncovered and basted every 20 min throughout. Took this to a family picnic where this was the main dish and/or could be served on lightly buttered dollar buns. Devoured and lots of compliments! Thanks for sharing this wonderful – and so darn easy – recipe!!

I used Dr. Pepper for the cola. It was a hit

I cooked on the smoker for 3-4 hrs at 225 F. The first 1-2 hrs uncovered in a foil pan with coke to provide moisture then basting with liquid from pan every 20-30 minutes. The last 1-2 hrs cover with foil until internal temp of 140 F.

Fantastic! I followed the recipe, and it came out tender and juicy. There weren’t any leftovers, so this will be made again!

Very good and simple recipe. I made it as it’s written.

I smoked my ham instead of baking it so my review is based strictly on the glaze. It was excellent! I can tell by reading the instructions for the oven that it would be great this way too! Thanks for the simple and delicious recipe!
