Use the spice combinations that you like. Butter on top and parchment paper wrapping are essential for baking white meat without it becoming dry. Every time, it retains moisture and is delicious and soft. Since almost all of the butter is absorbed by the paper, you are not truly eating it.

Reviews
It was great. I also added a little salt, pepper, dry mustard and garlic powder per a recommendation. I made the cream sauce and then added the cheese to it to melt and then poured it over the fish. Added a little buttered bread crumbs to the top. Will definitely be making again
Since I am currently doing the Ketp diet, I used unsalted butter instead of maragarine, Keto baking flour (wich I got at NaturaVía online store) instead of regular flour, and himalayan salt. Tasted fabulous!
Absoutly delicious!!
Loved this recipe.!’m not much of a fish lover, but I really loved this.It has a very mild flavor. Easy to make. Five stars by my me and my guests.
The entire family enjoyed this recipe. I’m married to a Newfie so I know it was delicious. I sauteed 2 1/2 lbs. fish with garlic salt and olive oil instead of boiling (you lose the flavor with boil) and flaked it into 9×13 dish. Added packet of shredded cheddar cheese and poured the bechamel over the top. I then topped with more cheese and bread crumbs. FYI: salt and pepper is all you need but you can add fresh thyme for extra flavor and its a repeat dish. Expensive to make here in Minnesota, but worth it once in a while for taste of home for the hubby.
It’s actually tasty if you add Parmesan, but The consistency is kind of gross. My teenage son called it, “a pile of mush”! This would be great for someone who has trouble swallowing and a great way to trick young children into eating fish!
Ok, not much flavour
Followed the recipe exactly. It was very good. The cheese crusted which added a nice crunch.
Came out really well! Used it with Haddock. Would be great with bay scallops or shrimp. Would use some fritter next time.
We had a cheese on top of each layer of sauce and we also added onion powder with the salt and pepper.
I made this recipe exactly as is and my husband, who is a Newfoundlander, absolutely loved it. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Excellent recipe! I made my white sauce in the microwave and added most of the cheese directly to it once it came out of the microwave. Also used more cheese and a bit of garlic powder as suggested by other reviewers.
Great recipe! I altered it a bit though. I used cream and an egg instead of flour and I added Italian breadcrumbs, Gouda and cheddar jack- and I added a couple potatoes-. Turned out great.
I thought this was pretty good. I just made a roux and then added the milk until slightly thickened then added the cheese until melted. I put my frozen catfish fillets in the pan, covered with the sauce and baked. I too added garlic with my saute onion.
Yummy !!!!! Everyone loved this recipe made as written…..
I liked this recipe a lot, although it would be somewhat bland as written. I added lemon juice and garlic powder to the sauce.
Absolutely disgusting. Will NEVER make again. Dumped into the garbage. Yuk!
Incredibly easy to make! Great for a quick weeknight dinner during the cold winter months. I’ll be making this again and following other reviewers’ suggestions to add layers of breadcrumbs, broccoli, mushrooms, etc. Thanks for sharing!
Quick and easy favourite of mine, I use this recipe every time. Make sure to salt your water for fish, and if you like add a layer of bread crumbs before cheese topping for a little crunch.
This dish was delicious. I added a little Dijon mustard and garlic powder. I would definitely make it again.
I modified this a lot by adding veggies – broccoli and mushrooms and used a touch of smoked Gouda. Very forgiving basic recipe. I also took suggestions from reviews and cooked the cod on the stove, rather than boil it.
