Ingredients

  1. 2 cups canola oil
  2. 2 cups All-Purpose Baking Mix, recipe follows
  3. 1/4 cup sugar, plus 2 tablespoons
  4. 1/2 cup milk
  5. 1 large egg
  6. 3 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
  7. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  8. 1/2 cup chocolate syrup, for serving
  9. 6 cups all-purpose flour
  10. 3 tablespoons baking powder
  11. 2 teaspoons salt
  12. 3/4 cup shortening

Instructions

  1. In a cast iron skillet, heat 1-inch of oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, add the baking mix and 1/4 cup sugar and whisk until combined. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and butter. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until the batter is smooth. Put the batter into a pastry bag (or plastic storage bag) fitted with a small star tip.
  3. Mix together the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon and set aside.
  4. Working in batches, pipe the dough in a long strip into the hot oil. Fry, turning them once, until they are golden brown, about 1 minute on each side. Drain on a sheet tray lined with a brown paper bag or paper towels. Sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon mixture and transfer to a serving platter. Serve warm with chocolate syrup.
  5. In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in the shortening with a pastry knife or fork until the mixture is well blended. Use in recipes that call for Bisquick or all-purpose mix.

Mr. John Rodriguez
It is just as quick to make them from scratch and so much better texture. Baking mix is not a good idea for these churros. Sorry, somethings you just can’t take a short cut on when the recipe is already easy.

I made these after watching her show today and they came out horrible. I guess the better the qaulity the better the taste.

I think the basic idea to use baking mix is good however they needed more flavor. A pinch of salt and vanilla would do the trick in making these a 5 star recipe.

I think Null is a bit of a downer on everything. Is there anything in life that you like, other than yourself? I guess NULL kind of speaks for itself. This recipe was perfect, when done right. I am hispanic and know how to make these the old fashioned, long way. These are just as good.

These were very quick to make and tasted really good! My kids loved that they were quick and munched them right down. I made them smaller so they were almost bite sized which made it easier for my 4 year old to handle.
