This granola is incredibly quick and easy to make and always turns out delicate, crisp, and delectable. Simply add your preferred dried fruits, nuts, toasted coconut, etc. to make it more adaptable. Simply cook your granola a little bit longer at the end if you prefer it firmer. Using butter will give it a richer, deeper flavor; using oil will make it taste lighter and more like the granola you get at the grocery store.

Ingredients

  1. 1 ¼ tablespoons olive oil
  2. 5 cups rolled oats
  3. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  4. ⅓ cup butter
  5. ¼ cup honey
  6. 1 tablespoon molasses
  7. ½ cup packed brown sugar
  8. ½ cup blanched slivered almonds (Optional)
  9. ½ cup dried cherries (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large stockpot over medium heat. Combine the oats and cinnamon and add them to the pot. Cook and stir until lightly toasted, stirring constantly, 3 to 4 minutes. Pour the oats out onto a large baking sheet and add the butter to the pot. When the butter has melted, stir in the honey, molasses and brown sugar. When the mixture starts to simmer, return the oats to the pot and continue to cook and stir until coated and hot.
  2. Remove from the heat and stir in the almonds and cherries. Pour onto a large cookie sheet and allow to cool. The granola will harden as it cools. When cool, transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature.

Really good! I made a few changes: I added 1/4 cup grated coconut, 1/4 cup chia seeds, 1/4 sesame seeds. Next time I’ll cut back on the chia to a tablespoon. I also added the oats mixture 2 cups at a time to the honey, butter and brown sugar mixture. That way all the oats were well coated. Finally, I put the cookie sheet in a 100 degree C. oven and baked for 15 minutes – pure perfection!

I’ve never made granola on the stovetop before, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to be the only way I make it from now on! It was super fast to make (10 minutes tops) and it’s delicious! I think this might be one of the best granolas I’ve ever made! I did alter it a touch as per my own taste preferences: I found 5 cups of oats to 1/2 cup of nuts and 1/2 cup of dried fruit to be too high of an oat ratio; so I added 1 1/2 cups nuts (used sliced almonds, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds) and 1 cup dried tart cherries. I also reduced the amount of sweetener to only 1/2 cup total (used maple syrup in place of both honey and brown sugar). I think a 1/4 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of vanilla would be good additions as well. One precaution when making this; allow your pan to cool a few minutes after toasting the oats (I recommend toasting the nuts alongside the oats too), and before adding in the butter/sugar mixture–it’ll sputter and spit and attempt to boil over if the pan is too hot. And get all your ingredients measured out and ready to go beforehand so you can keep stirring and avoid burning anything (reduce heat to really really low after adding the oats back in). Then pour the ingredients onto a parchment lined baking sheet and smoosh the granola together a bit–that way it will clump together as it cools and you can break it into whatever size pieces you wish! Great recipe–this will be my go-to granola from now on! Thank you!

No more baking granola for me! This was quick, easy and turned out great, as good as any I’ve baked. I followed the recipe, adding a cup each of pecans, shredded coconut and raisins. I was using old fashioned oats so I extended the cooking time to about 10 minutes, adding the nuts and coconut part way through to toast them. The raisins I added at the end. I meant to add vanilla but forgot. I used butter rather than oil. The granola clumped well after cooling. Good recipe – thanks!

I wasn’t sure how this would turn out, because it’s not oven baked, but this recipe is AWESOME!!!!!! Once it cools, you can’t even tell that it’s not baked! It is super easy and quick, and it is easily adaptable. I didn’t have any almonds, so I used walnuts instead and I also put chocolate drops on it while it was hot and they melted into it and made a very nice taste! It is also easy to double, as I often cook for 11 people, and have a hard time finding recipes that are easy to double. Overall awesome and easy recipe!!!! Update: I make this often and serve it warm, and it’s really good! I also made a mistake and did 1 1/2 batch of the oat cinnamon mix, and only did 1 batch of the sugar, but it turned out good.

Thank you for this amazing recipe! It really is versatile as the description says! I made quite a few changes: I omitted the sugar & molasses, instead used 3/4c honey. I used 3T coconut oil (I also used coconut oil to toast oats, it gives it such a wonderful flavor!) and 3T butter instead of using all butter. I used raisins & walnuts instead of cherries and almonds

I love the stove top version the best! Great recipe that adapts well to many substitutions. We use coconut and sunflower seeds. I also sub some of the butter and all the oil with coconut oil! All the NOMS! Dried cranberries are the favorite addition along with pumpkin seeds and dates!

This was my first crack at making granola and it came out real good. I added 1 tsp Nutmeg and doubled the cinnamon, which gave it a bit more flavor. I also substituted the butter with the same amount of coconut oil. This made it a lot lighter and healthier but it didn’t stick together as well as with butter. Nonetheless these are my modifications and it sure is good and I will make it again. Thanks!

This recipe is so easy and tasty and versatile! I add about a half teaspoon of vanilla extract to the butter/honey/molasses mixture to soften the molasses flavor. Any combination of dried fruit and nuts is delicious with this as the base, and I’ve also added seeds and chocolate chips. The possibilities are endless!

This was my first time making granola and boy was I impressed with the results, very very yummy. I used sliced almonds and I used dried cranberrys because that was what I had. i’ll never buy store bought again, my dad eats yogurt every morning w/ granola. I can’t wait until he tries it. It was very crunchy and chewy and clumped together wonderfully, just all over great! I think I will try it with orange extract! Thanks for the great recipe! Roweena I am giving it away as gifts this Christmas along with some other homemade goodies. Maybe I should add that I substituted coconut oil for the olive oil, and I didn’t have molasses but used dark pancake syrup from Karo instead. I also have been using Cinnamon Plus from Pampered Chef, a wonderful blend of spices for cookies, etc. It all worked!

This recipe is super fast and yummy. I decreased the oats to 3 1/2 c – then added 1 c dried cherries and 1 c walnuts (which I toasted with the oats and cinnamon) finished off with a splash of vanilla – placed in cute canning jars for hostess gifts – except I cant stay out of them!
