I am constantly being asked for this recipe everytime I make it. So easy to put together. Best way to feed many for a stress free morning meal. I like to use marble rye for half of the bread slices and the rest use whatever leftover bread I have handy (hotdog buns, Hawaiian rolls, English muffins or white bread.) Adding some goat cheese to it was delicious too.

I made this dish for my church. It was a hit so I was asked to make it again.

After reading several reviews, I made additions of chopped shallots, chopped red & orange bell peppers, and chopped mushrooms. Also added a 1/4 cup of drained and squeezed dry frozen spinach; a few red pepper flakes and fresh ground black pepper. I used a blend of medium cheddar cheese, gruyere & smoked gouda with bacon; along with 1 cup whole milk and 1 cup of regular whipping cream (for. 2 cups milk). I used 5 Jumbo Eggs Baked a little longer in both baking steps. Saved about 1/4 cup of cheese to sprinkle on top for about last 5 minutes of baking. Allowed it to rest at least 5 minutes before slicing. Final results PERFECT!!! We are anxiously waiting for breakfast tomorrow. Anticipating how good it’s going to taste after having time for the flavors to blend.

So bland…not worth your time, or the price the eggs.~ Notice the comments…the only people who give it a good review…don’t actually follow this recipe…they all tweak it.

We have this every Christmas and it’s a big hit! I change it up by using garlic cheddar croutons instead of the toast, I use turkey sausage, add garlic and onion powder, double the recipe, and crumbled bacon and chopped green onions on top when finished!

Really greasy, but easy to make and good to eat! Pretty decent start to the day.

Everyone loved this recipe, even our daughter who doesn’t care for egg dishes. I used the pork sausage from Aldi and made the recipe as is. The few pieces that were left heated up beautifully in the microwave. Why wait until Christmas to make it again? . It would be perfect for potlucks or for overnight company or just for you.

Easy to make. I used hot Italian sausage and threw in some onion/garlic/cumin powder instead of the mustard. That spiced it up a bit, which I like.

This recipe has become a staple of our Christmas experience as we’ve made this for the past several years. This year we added diced onion and next year we will probably also add diced bell pepper and sliced mushroom. The only trouble we’ve had is that we cooked it the full 90 minutes this year without checking on it and it came out a bit overcooked, so next year we’ll check it for doneness at 60 and 75 minutes. Definitely recommended for an easy to make and deliciously gratifying meal on Christmas morning or anytime!

My grandma would make this casserole for Christmas when I was a kid so it’s been tradition in my family for 20+ years. I’ve never been able to make it quite like hers but this is the closest I can get! I definitely recommend adding 2 extra eggs since the bread soaks up most of the liquid. The mustard powder is an essential part for the flavor so definitely avoid omitting it if possible. It changes the game imo.

I generally never care for breakfast casseroles but this one was excellent. I was out of dry mustard, so I subbed in garlic powder, I used turkey breakfast sausage, and I used a bag of garlic croutons. I’ll be making this again!

I double the recipe… My family request this casserole every Christmas Holiday for the last 10 years.. it’s a must try..

We make this quite often sometimes we put hash brown patties on bottom of casserole dish first also try crumbled bacon instead of sausage all are great.

I make this every year for Christmas morning breakfast, as written, for my family and all the guests we have. I have made it for at least 12 years now. It’s one of our traditions. Everyone always loves it and it gets eaten quickly.

My most requested dish by the family! I use Italian sausage and sourdough bread, equal parts half and half and milk plus I add two more eggs. Absolutely the best breakfast bake!

I have made this recipe for my family every Christmas since finding it several years ago. The one change we made to it was to use maple breakfast sausage links. One of our favorites that we all look forward too!

I’ve made this recipe for about 40 years now, essentially identical to this one. I usually use a few more eggs and more milk. I’ve also used cooked, diced ham in lieu of sausage!
Carolyn Ellis
I also make this as written therefore the 5 stars. To rate 5 stars on a completely changed recipe doesn’t make sense to me. I have made some changes. One is I’ve used is the maple flavored sausage. The original recipe is always a hit at home and church brunches

I make a similar version and have been making it for years.Spray pan with Pam. I line the pan with tater tots . I add cup of sharp cheddar cheese over tots, add sausage , another cup of cheese, then the egg mixture as mentioned ( I use a dozen eggs). Then a cup of cheddar. I usually use 3 cups of cheese. I have added 1/4 cup of onions , or green chiles (4 oz) or chopped jalapenos. Change it up. I do not cover. Take it out in about an hour and let it set for at least 5 minutes. Grill some corn or flour tortillas. Serve in the tortilla . No plate no silverware. Feed my cowboys at the ranch. They love it.

Great breakfast for guests!
