Chocolate Banana Muffins

These muffins with chocolate and banana are flavorful and delicious. I looked at a ton of recipes, and I found that the majority had way too much sugar. For these muffins to be excellent, very little sugar is necessary. I only added 1/2 cup of sugar because they already had bananas and chocolate chips, and it was the perfect amount!

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 12
Yield: 12 muffins

Ingredients

  1. 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  2. ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  3. 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  4. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  5. ½ teaspoon salt
  6. ½ cup white sugar
  7. ½ cup canola oil
  8. ¼ cup milk
  9. 1 egg
  10. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  11. 2 large very ripe bananas, mashed
  12. ¾ mini semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk sugar, oil, milk, egg, and vanilla extract together in a separate bowl until smooth; stir into flour mixture until just moistened. Fold in bananas and chocolate chips.
  4. Divide batter among the muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes.
  6. Substitute yogurt for the milk if preferred.

Loved it, a hit with my family. I added a quarter cup sugar instead of the recommended half cup and it was plenty sweet. In fact, I won’t add the sugar at all next time. I feel the banana and chips will suffice .

Very nice muffins! I made 6 jumbo ones. Not too sweet..but that’s how we like it. I drizzled melted chocolate on top. I did use 3 bananas. Not huge banana flavour, but overall good, and I would make them again.

Added 1/4 cup of unsweetened applesauce for moisture and my bananas were small. Came out great!

I made as per recipe and they were very dry.

I thought it was really good, I used a mix of milk and white chocolate chips. I can’t really taste the bananas, but it was still really good.

Super easy and yummy! I did make a few changes only because it’s what I had on hand. I used vegetable oil instead of canola, I used 3 bananas (because they were the last 3 I had), I used 1/2 cup of regular sized chocolate chips, and I sprayed my muffin pan with oil spray instead of using liners. Mine really tasted like bananas (either because of the extra banana or because they were super ripe) but it blended nicely with the chocolate flavors. Will definitely make again.

Made the recipe as written. Can’t think of single thing I would change! Lovely chocolate flavor, but it didn’t hide the banana flavor. Perfectly balanced. Thank you for a delicious, easy and fast recipe to use up overripe bananas!

I used this recipe in my mini donut maker and added some vanilla glaze once I was done. I thought they were really good. The banana flavor didn’t stand out a lot but I could still taste it.

These are amazing. Picture taken 10 minutes after being removed from the oven and there’s already 4 gone! The family loved them. To make them vegan I substituted milk for cashew milk and the egg for aquafab. It worked really well!

I made a change, swapped half the oil for butter (only to make sure they didn’t stick to the pan). They are incredible, definitely taste like banana (a review said otherwise). Moist and chocolatey!

This was a nice change from regular banana muffins. I used white chocolate chips because that’s all I had. They’re very moist and flavorful – my husband said they’re a winner! Note: I baked them for 20 minutes.

Used whole wheat flour and the outcome was…….. delish. Next time will add more chocolate chips to the batter and on top to make it more chocolatey.

I recommend using only 2 or 3 tablespoons of coco powder so you can taste the banana. Instead of just sugar I used 1/4 a cup of brown sugar. Other wise they are really good!

I used half whole wheat flour and half white. They were a little crumbly, possibly because of that substitution, but very good. I couldn’t really taste the banana, mostly the chocolate, but that was fine!
