This delicious rendition of the well-known wine beverage uses an original sangria recipe. You can add any fruit you like, although apples and pears seem to soak up the most rum. This one doesn’t contain any fizzy drinks to dilute it. Although spiced rum is also good, I’ve had great success using red Burgundy wine and white rum.

Ingredients

  1. 8 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 cup butter, at room temperature
  3. 3 tablespoons butter, at room temperature
  4. 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  5. ½ cup milk
  6. 2 tablespoons milk
  7. 1 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons butter, and nutmeg together in a large bowl until well incorporated. Stir in 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons milk until dough comes together.
  2. Roll dough 1/4-inch thick on a floured work surface and cut into small pieces.
  3. Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Fry dough pieces in batches until they turn golden brown and float to the surface, 3 to 5 minutes.

These are delightful! They are so easy to make, too. I used gluten free all purpose flour. I rolled them in some fine ground sugar after frying them. They are a bit like a dense beignet. A nice treat if you want something sweet and quick. Thank you for sharing the recipe with us.
