You can also roll the cookies in the sugar sprinkles before baking.
Level: Easy
Total: 30 min
Prep: 20 min
Cook: 10 min
Yield: 4 dozen cookies

Ingredients

  1. 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  3. 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  4. 1 cup softened butter
  5. 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  6. 1 egg
  7. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  8. 3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
  9. Sprinkles or colored sugar, for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in dry ingredients. Add enough of the buttermilk to moisten the dough and make it soft, not wet.
  4. Roll rounded teaspoons of dough into balls and place on a ungreased cookie sheet. With a brush or fingers, moisten the top of each cookie with the remaining buttermilk and slightly flatten the top of each cookie. Sprinkle with raw sugar or colored sprinkles.
  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until slightly golden. Let stand for 2 minutes before removing to cool on a rack.

This was the first cookie I’ve ever made! I added macadamia nuts and white chocolate chips. I baked them for 14 minutes in my oven at 375°F. They turned out so very well. Great with a cup of tea.

I make these without any extras and they are delicious! I have been making them for years and everyone loves them.

These are delicious. I did not flatten them, just put in oven as a ball. They are crispy around the edges and soft in the middle.

These were really bad. Flavorless and dry and hard. Even my kids wouldn’t eat them, which has never happened.

Perfect and easy

These were easy to make and my family loved them. I did roll the balls into sugar, rather than brushing the buttermilk on top as was stated in the recipe.

I loved this recipe! I added a teaspoon of cinnamon to the dry ingredients, and I put the dough in the fridge for 20 minutes. I cut out little shapes in the dough, and it shaped amazingly and it tasted so good! I would definitely recommend this recipe for fast sugar cookies!
