Cheesy Italian Tortellini

  4.4 – 402 reviews  • Beef

I got this recipe from my aunt. The finest brownies you’ve ever tasted are a little hassle, but they are worth it.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 7 hrs 25 mins
Total Time: 7 hrs 40 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. ½ pound ground beef
  2. ½ pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  3. 1 (16 ounce) jar marinara sauce
  4. 1 (14.5 ounce) can Italian-style diced tomatoes, undrained
  5. 1 (4.5 ounce) can sliced mushrooms
  6. 1 (9 ounce) package refrigerated or fresh cheese tortellini
  7. 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  8. ½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef and Italian sausage in the hot skillet until crumbly and browned, about 10 minutes. Drain.
  2. Combine ground meats, marinara sauce, tomatoes, and mushrooms in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low for 7 to 8 hours.
  3. Stir tortellini into marinara meat sauce. Sprinkle with mozzarella and Cheddar cheese. Cover and cook on Low until tortellini is tender, about 15 more minutes.

I didn’t change a thing. It has quickly become my husbands favorite dish.I believe cooking the sauce in the slow cooker all day married the ingredients which pushed the sauce to a higher level.

This is a great comfort food meal. The first time I made it I substituted mozzarella per several reviewers recommendations. It was o.k. The second time I made it, I followed the recipe and used cheddar — oh my goodness it was *delicious.* Forget the mootz and stick with the cheddar!! Sooo good. After several years of making it, I have made a few minor changes — I don’t use the sausage per family preferences, and instead use 1# of ground beef; I use 3 fresh Roma tomatoes instead of canned; I add about 1/4C red wine. Easy and tasty.

Awesome recipe! I have prepared this many times for small family meals, large family meals, and retirement parties for up to 50 people (in large roasting . Everyone raves about this meal and asks for the recipe. The only substitution I make is Jimmy Dean Hot Sausage in place of the Italian Sausage.

This was pretty good! I will make it again because it was not only good, but EASY & CONVENIENT! However, I will add some herbs and spices the next time to bump it up a notch.

This recipe is delicious. The only complaint I have is that 9oz of this pasta does not feed 6 people. Even the package says it’s about 2 1/2 servings.

I used more marinara so it would be soupier. I also added some Italian seasoning to the crock pot. And I added some minced garlic while browning the meat. I used 96/4 lean ground beef. Did not add the cheese to crock pot. We just sprinkled some Mozz and Parmesan on top after we scooped it in our bowls. My hubby loved this recipe, thank you very much for it!!

This was delicious. I’ve made some tweaks to it. Instead of ground beef, I used ground turkey. I’ve swapped plain Italian sausage with Italian turkey sausage. Since I didn’t have any cheddar cheese with me, I’ve grated a block of white cheddar cheese. I’ve used store-brought frozen tortellini and it came out so good. I would make this again.

So easy and absolutely delicious. I did make one change. Instead of canned mushrooms I used 1 cup of fresh sliced Portobello’s. I love the earthy Taste of fresh mushrooms. Tonight I am going to use ravioli instead of tortellini at my son’s request. I’m sure it will be scrumptious!

Delicious, but does not need so much time to cook in my slow cooker.

It tastes very good. We are having it with mixed vegetables for our lunches this week. All I added was some extra Italian Seasoning to add some extra flavor. Thank you for this and other recipes.

Quick and easy. Could have used more Italian spices for my taste.

Modifications: 12 oz soy crumbles; 6.5 oz. Italian soy sausage; 25 oz. pasta sauce; 6 oz. mushrooms. 12 oz. tortellini; all else same as in original recipe. Makes 6 servings at 515 calories each

This was very good!! I skipped the mushrooms and didn’t include the cheddar cheese. There were suggestions to add a bell pepper and onions, which I may do next time (I can see how it would make an equally good dish just by changing the flavor profile), but I really didn’t feel it needed anything extra. I doubled the recipe for our family of 4 and we had just enough. Quick and easy. Second time: Used the mushrooms and cheddar cheese. No significant difference, so use per preference. I thought about the bell peppers and realized it would deter my children. So I stuck with the entire recipe the second time. Overall, still very very delicious!

This was fabulous. Could be made in many different ways depending on your own tastes. I added Italian seasononing to the ground beef.

Amazing dish! My husband loved it. I made two changes though. For the cheese I used parmesan and romano. I did not measure how much I just used my best judgement. Secondly I did not make it in the crockpot because I made this dish in under an hour. Turned out delicious. Will definitely make again.

Great recipe!! This will certainly stay on my favorites list! May change it a bit once in a while for the variety.

It wasn’t bad, but I’m going to try this one more time. Next time I’m going to do all Italian sausage with no hamburger meat and I’m going to add a can of cream of mushroom soup and see if that doesn’t help the flavor a little bit.

Good!! I cut out the sausage and just used very lean ground beef. I also didn’t use my crockpot but made the sauce on the stove and added the torts. Yummy! Oh! And my picky 2 yr old even ate them!
