Cook Time: 35 mins
Total Time: 45 mins
Servings: 10
Yield: 5 cups

Ingredients

  1. 2 pounds ground beef
  2. 2 (15 ounce) cans diced new potatoes
  3. 1 cup chopped onion
  4. 4 cups milk
  5. 1 pound processed cheese food (such as Velveeta ®), cut into chunks
  6. ½ pound sharp Cheddar cheese, cut into chunks
  7. ground black pepper to taste
  8. ⅔ cup mashed potatoes (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Add diced potatoes and onion; cook and stir until onion is tender, 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Mix milk, processed cheese food, and Cheddar cheese into beef mixture; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring often, until heated through and cheese is melted, 15 to 20 minutes; season with pepper. Add mashed potatoes for a thicker chowder; cook until heated through and thickened, about 5 minutes.

I used the recipe as a base recipe. I added real garlic, garlic with parsley, beef broth, thyme, sazon all seasonings, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and real potatoes. Came out really good. Everyone wanted seconds. Thanks!!

This is okay, but the predominate flavor is just the processed cheese. It needed more flavor–garlic and beef broth or bouillon would be a good start.

I added chopped fresh kale when i added the carrots, a delicious recipe

Following the directions, this was good but not fantastic. It definitely needed doctoring up. I added a heaping tablespoon of minced garlic, garlic salt, onion powder, cayenne pepper and mushrooms and it was very tasty! I also substituted the milk with beef broth for less calories. Next time I am thinking of adding a can of diced tomatoes and som Dijon as well. I will be making again with the modifications.

This is delicious! Used 4 cups beef broth, in place of milk, did not add potatoes. Stirred in 1/2 cup sour cream right before serving.

I used a bag of Green Giant riced cauliflower & sweet potato instead of the canned potato. It really was good!

Too much velvetta cheese! It tastes like hamburger helper mac and cheese

Delicious! Used fresh shredded potatoes instead of the canned. Also added a small amount of instant potatoes to thicken a bit. Will definitely make again
