Candied Bacon Bites

Ingredients

  1. 10 slices bacon
  2. One 12-ounce can cola
  3. Nonstick cooking spray, for the cooling rack
  4. 3/4 cup unpacked light brown sugar
  5. 2 teaspoons sweet paprika
  6. 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Put the bacon in a container so it lays flat. Pour over the cola to cover. Refrigerate and let soak 2 to 3 hours.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil, place a cooling rack over top and spray with cooking spray.
  3. Drain the bacon from the cola, place on the cooling rack and pat dry. Combine the brown sugar, paprika and black pepper in a bowl and toss to combine and loosen up the brown sugar. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture on both sides of the bacon, pressing and patting so it adheres. Place the slices on the cooling rack; they can be close to one another but shouldn’t touch.
  4. Bake until the bacon is deeply caramelized but still pliable (it will crisp as it cools), about 20 minutes. Flip the bacon occasionally as it cools to crisp on both sides. Let cool completely.

It was ok. Just ok. I am not sure it’s worth the hassle of the cooling racks and I like more punch in a recipe that has so much sweet to it. So, it’s good and for sure more palatable for those that aren’t into heat or a little kick. I did not prefer how mild it was. It’s a preference thing and you could absolutely tweak it to add the heat.

I don’t recommend thick cut bacon. I also used dr pepper and smoked paprika because that’s what I had. It was awesome. To make clean up easier crinkle aluminum foils so it makes ridges so bacon drains a bit while cooking and you cans just fold up to avoid the mess.

This is soooooooo amazing! I made this for a charcuterie board & it was the 1st thing to go!!!! Made it again the next night with Dr Pepper & smoked paprika instead & omg!!!!! Even better then night before

I’m on the fence with this recipe; I found it to be really sweet but the flavors of the seasonings seemed minimal. The clean up of the cooling racks is also a pain so I’m not sure it’s worth it.
