After leaving a neighborhood Italian eatery, I made this delectable timballo casserole at home. It is served alongside crusty bread and a side salad.

Added 1Tb butter in addition to the 1/4 cup listed. added a packet of applesauce and 1 gala apple finely chopped. added a pinch of nutmeg and ground ginger. used 1 cup regular oats and half a cup quick cook. Added 1/2 tsp vanilla. Next time I’ll back off on the cinnamon and probably add another egg (it was pretty crumbly).
I read a number of the reviews and anticipated a few changes. Mixing the dry ingredients, I put a full teaspoon of cinnamon in. Mostly because I like cinnamon. I packed the brown sugar because all my cookie recipes call for packed brown sugar. Whipping the egg into it wasn’t as difficult as this Noobie thought. Decided not to add milk. Definitely want to make this the evening before. Trying to make this in the morning before coffee was very challenging for me.
Prepared it as written and I felt it was dry and not overly flavorful. If I make it again, I will doctor it with some apple sauce, some vanilla and more cinnamon. Milk or cream would be an additional option as well.
I used butter opposed to margarine and added cashews for added ump! Not as thin as the crisp in King Soopers.
My husband and I both work full time and mornings are hectic. This was the perfect make ahead breakfast for the whole week! I used high protein oatmeal and in the end, it was more like a chewy granola bar. Very satisfying. OUTSTANDING!
I did add a cup of applesauce, and served it with apricot syrup from the farmers’ market. Very good!
First time baking it, it tastes yummy but kina dry and not crispy. I’ll try again.
Tasty! It’s good out of the oven. I only changed the margarine to 1/2 cup. Next time will add chopped apple or fruit as it is dry. Baked at 25 minutes like others.
I followed the recipe exactly. It was so dry and crumbly. Not much flavor either. Something must be missing from this recipe. I was so disappointed.
Did not mix well, far and away too dry of a mixture. Appears that a liquid of some kind was omitted from the receipt.
Margarine is one ingredient away from being plastic ! Butter worked great !
It came out good always looking for recipes to make for meals.Always looking for recipes got snacks and desserts
I didn’t have instant oats so I used regular oats and otherwise followed the recipe exactly. It was very cakey and not crisp at all. It was hearty but not what I was expecting. At least it wasn’t too sweet and made for a decent breakfast
It tasted amazing and smelt so good I also added some vinilla extract this would also be a good granola recipe
Just ok. Made it as written. I should have heeded the other reviews. It was dry and crumbly. It is essentially an oatmeal cookie in a pan. I already have an oatmeal cookie recipe that I love so I don’t see the point in trying it again.
Turned out so awesome! I used a muffin tin instead though cause I couldnt find my 9×9 and it was easier to serve that way.
Great and quick. Made it as stated the first time and ended up pouring fruit syrup (Saskatoon berry for one kid, strawberry for the other) on it. My kids loved it more when I added 2 mashed bananas and a handful of chocolate chips. Husband loved it the time I added a cup of mixed berries and 1/2 cup apple sauce. This is a great base recipe that you can change anyway you want! Walnuts, 1 banana and 1/4 cup maple syrup made for a very sweet maple walnut style dish. Chia seeds or flax are always a great addition in my house.
Meh. It was good straight out of the oven – I followed others suggestions and used 2 eggs, mashed banana, and about 1/4c cashew milk. Baked in a 9″ pie plate 30 minutes. Again, it was good the first day… but the leftovers, not so much. Relatively healthy though!
It was a little dry for my taste. 🙁
Terrific! Not too sweet, but sweet enough. ACTUALLY stayed in the shape of a bar when I cut it. Siblings loved it! Going to be a regular breakfast option. I quadrupled the recipe and put into two 9 by 13″ pans. I also added a little ginger and cinnamon and used bleached all-purpose flour. I baked it at 375 degrees because I was running short on time.
It was very taste but dry, wish it could be a little bit more moist.
